Hi all,

I'm getting ready for an upcoming ski trip to Breckenridge and looking for some recent restaurant recommendations for a group of 3 couples.

What I'm interested in is your favorite places to eat - not necessarily the highest rated fine dining (unless they're really your favorites). What are the places you return to time after time, or would return to the next time you were in town? Where have you had the best margaritas, pasta, pizza, etc.?

Good margaritas are at Mi Casa or Fiesta Jalisco. Fiesta Jalisco has more authentic Mexican food, but both restaurants are good. Service at Fiesta Jalisco is very fast.

Go to Eric's Underground for a good time and pizza (plus lots of other food). The rest of my family also likes Giampietro's (sp?) pizza (I like my pizza with lots of toppings).

Cafe Alpine is very good, more on the "fine dining" side but not stuffy or formal. Blue River Bistro is also good, but tends to get noisy.

The Swiss Haven is the fondue place in Breck. The owner and employees are very nice, and the food is your usual swiss fondue stuff.

If you like sushi, go to Sushi Breck.

Clint's for great croissants and other breakfast stuff, though it can be crowded in the mornings. Visit Greta's for ice cream and coffee drinks. And for a different kind of snack or light lunch, go to Crepes a la Carte, which is operated from a permanently-situated cart on Main St.

I haven't been in a few years but would always go to Briar Rose - casual fine dining, historic type establishment with miners/mining history. Would second the Blue River Bistro recommendation. Swan Mountain Inn is a B & B with an elegant, candle lit fine dining experience in the dinner hours that is off the beaten path. It's a few miles outside town on Hwy 9. Fa-Heata for happy hour or late night mexican and margaritas. The brews at Breck Brewery are outstanding and the food is pretty good to match. You can have a one of a kind dining experience either at Der Fondue Chessel (casual, fondue) or the Alpenglow Stube (fine dining) at the top of North Peak at Keystone. They give you blankets for your 2 gondola rides to get to the restaurants (gondolas seat 6). You leave the lighted portion of Keystone Mtn. behind and end up in what seems like the middle of nowhere at almost 11,500 feet with a zillion stars. This was a busy ski facility just hours earlier but now it is a pair of great restaurants. This would be a great outing with 6 friends. Enjoy.

Another vote for Swiss Haven. Great fondue in a cute setting. When the weather is good, they have a great patio with amazing views of the mountain.

Alpenglow Stube (in Keystone) is an unforgetable experience - fabulous food and a unique romantic setting - but pretty darn expensive! I've heard Ski Tip (also in Keystone) is wonderful and the atmosphere is rustic and cozy - many have said that's their favorite Colorado restaurant.

Downstairs at Erics. They've got great food at affordable prices. It's a family restaurant which recently enforced a non-smoking policy. Burgers, sandwiches, salads, soups and the largest size pizza I've ever seen and it's delicious.

A couple of months ago I went to both the Alpenglow Stube and the Ski Tip Lodge. The former has the adventure of the gondola trip up the mountain. The night we went was incredibly cold and they had run out of blankets. The Ski Tip continually ranks at the top of my list of restaurants. Fantastic and creative food. I've never tried the Keystone Ranch restaurant, at the Ranch Golf Course. It is Zagats #1 rated restaurant in Colorado.

Ski Tip is a favorite, In Breck proper Cafe Alpine.

I'll second Eric's downstairs. We eat there several times on each annual trip to Breck, simply because everything we've ever had is scrumptious. Awesome meatball pizza, burgers, roast chicken dinners . . . heavenly 'real food'.

We also love Rasta Pasta for at least one quirky dinner. It's funky and fun, interesting pasta-- especially their Rasta Pasta specialty which is a curried dish.

Mi Casa for good Mexican and decent margaritas.

These 3 places are our all-time standbys--we always choose great food over atmosphere.

Go to Wasabi on Main Street if you're craving Japanese food and sushi, good food, reasonable prices. Also there is a Crepe stand just down the road, freshly made with lots of different combinations. Made to order for lunch or dessert... gotta try it.

Thanks Avs19. We love sushi. What are our chances of getting reservations for New Years dinner? (i'm sure it's too late) Can you recommend any other restaurants?

Wasabi is a self serve restaurant. You order at the counter and pick up the food when called. It's a good place for lunch. We kind of stumle upon it when strolling down Main Street. I'm not sure if they are open for dinner, but definitely not a fancy restaurant for new year's eve dinner, if that's what you're looking for. Seemed authentic, the cook and the lady who took the order are japanese.

Breckenridge Brewery is decent, good local beers. Haven't gone to many restaurants in Breck, hopefully others can help.

If you're interested in sushi, try Flying Fish Sushi. It's in La Cima mall, and it's an actual sit-down restuarant (though still pretty informal).

Another one of my favorites, though probably only a New Year's Eve choice if you can't find anything nicer, is My Thai. Good, fresh Thai, not terribly authentic, but tasty nonetheless, large portions, and the staff is very welcoming and helpful. It's very casual. Also in La Cima Mall.

Some more upscale places, likely already booked, are Blue River Bistro (tends to be very noisy) and Alpine Cafe. There's a new place called Rado, or something like that; I haven't been but the menu looks decent.

The Hearthstone is in an old Victorian; probably pretty similar to the Briar Rose.

The Cellar Wine Bar is another new place, in another old Victorian. It's on Ridge. Due to the fact that it's new and not on Main St., it might not be booked up (same for Rado). I haven't been here either, though I'd like to give it a try.

Just in from Breckenridge; by the way, the snow’s great this year.

Our favorite restaurant in town used to be Café Alpine but its standards slipped on our last visit. The appetizers where still first-class but the entree’s were to be frank a little dull. This is our 4th visit to Café Alpine; it may have just been an off-night. http://www.cafealpine.com

However the new show in town is definitely the Cellar Wine Bar, which occupies the late, great, Mrs. E’s and Me location. The food here is definitely 4 star quality, so is the service (if their not overrun). The style is definitely that of a sampling menu, as the portions are small, but we found this to be very enjoyable as we just grazed dish after dish with plenty of wine in between. For lunch I’d recommend a short stroll down Main Street to Kenosha for Burgers, BBQ and Booze (that’s what their sign says). Their spicy chilli is excellent.

Other eateries in town which rank at the top of our list include The Hearthstone and South Ridge Seafood Grill, both will require a reservation to ensure a table, especially for more than 4.

For happy hour drinks and chicken wings go to the Quandary in Main Street Station – cheep wine, beer and liquor make it a perfect place to hang out after a hard day on the slopes – get there before 4pm as the ski school instructors hang out here and hog the bar area.
