Virginia Road Trip
My DH and I are traveling by car from CT to Savannah. Need a stop in VA. We've been to Williamsburg several times and also to Charlottesville and Richmond. Looking for another suggestion for 2 nights. Good hotel, great food and some interesting sights. We like history, landscaping and gardens and art. Any suggestins would be most appreciated. Last year we loved people's suggestions of The Jefferson in the Fall and The Clifton Inn in the Spring.

Are you going down 95? If you pass by Norfolk/Virginia Beach and haven't been there it would be a nice stop. Yes, we have terrible traffic around the one tunnel, but there is an alternate tunnel that only adds 15-20 mins to your trip.
The Chrysler Museum in Norfolk has a decent collection of art from different periods. Norfolk also has a nice botanical garden. You could stop and see the Battleship Wisconsin which is docked at Nauticus in downtown Norfolk.
I live here, so I don't have any knowledge of the hotels in the area.

Thank you for your suggestions. We leave this Friday heading to Cape May and then the ferry to Lewes DE. Sat AM we are going down the DelMarVa Peninsula on 13 across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Thought we would have lunch around VA Beach and then head towards 95 to SC. So lunch and site suggestions are welcome in that area. We've never been to either VA Beach or Norfolk.

VA Beach has a ton of good chain restaurants and some great local places. If you like seafood, check out Captain Groovy's. They have a website, service is fast and quick and the food is great (they have non-seafood options too). It's probably near the CBBT- it's close to the Little Creek Naval Base in Norfolk.
You could also try the Granby Street area of Norfolk (about the 300-500 blocks, downtown near the water). There are many restaurants there, I have only been to Rama Gardens (Thai) but it's supposed to be a great area for food.
The Town Center area of VA Beach (at Independence Blvd and Rt 58) is where a lot of the chains are- PF Changs, Cheesecake Factory, Macaroni Grill, etc....

For any time you are on Rte I95, check out I95exitguide.com. It gives usually current list of services - food, lodging, fuel - at each exit. We make similar drive a few times/year - also like Fredericksburg - can't help with lodging, though, since we usually pick a random inexpensive chain as a place to sleep.
