Thank you to everybody for such great advice. I called and booked a room at the London (and requested a view of Central Park). Perhaps Gordon Ramsey's show being on tonight was a sign that we should stay there! Anyway, my husband and I are really excited -- I'll let you know how everything goes.

I wanted to share my experience with the London NYC...unfortunately it was a terrible experience. When I booked the room, by telephone a month and a half in advance, I told them that our flight would arrive late, therefore we would check-in very late (midnight or later). No problem, right? Wrong. We arrived at 1am only to find out that they had overbooked the hotel and our room was not available...NO rooms were available in the entire hotel. They set us up at the Parker Meridien for the evening and told us to check in the next day at 3pm, and our room would be available.

This was incredibly disappointing. It was late, we were tired and i was emotional as all since this was my first trip away from my baby! So disappointing that we decided that we did not want to return to the London. So at 2am, we called the Ritz in Battery Park and booked the remainder of our weekend there (to check in the next day). The London cancelled our reservations without a problem, so at least they were accommodating and understanding. And don't get me wrong, they were very sorry for the mistake and as friendly as they could be given the circumstances. But overbooking our room was such a sore spot for us -- and how were we to know if they would have given us the correct room when we did check in the next day?

The Ritz was wonderful and it actually worked out better for us. We were able to hang out in Central Park and do some shopping before leaving midtown, and then we cabbed it downtown for the rest of the weekend (like I said before, the wedding we were attending was downtown). So I suppose everything happens for a reason...

A few other things worth noting:
- we had an amazing dinner at Scalini Fedeli in TriBeCa...out of this world food & service!
- the staff at the Parker Meridien were very friendly but the room (for $800/night) was just "ok" and the sheets of the bed had a rip and black-something stain in them (which is why we didn't stay there for the rest of the weekend).

Sorry you were disappointed. But all hotels overbook - to allow for no-shows - and arriving that late at night is always a risk. (I've been walked at least 3 times when my flights were very late, but a couple of times was given a large suite since that was all they had left - so it sort of balances out.)

It sounds like they handled it professionally - which is the best you can expect under the circumstances.

I hoped they comped your night at Le Parker Meridian!

If not I would write a letter to the General Manager of NYC London and send it certified mail. Also, cc a copy certified mail to the parent company president.

Gosh, I had never seen this report, huntington. I feel responsible!

I'm so glad it didn't ruin your weekend and it sounds like staying midtown 1 night and downtown the rest wasn't a bad idea.
