The Hotel Edison

I have reservations at the Hotel Edison for 3 nights in December. Can anyone tell me about this hotel?

have never heard anything really negative about this property. The general consensue seems to be that it's an older preprty, adequately maintained and clean but could use some updating. generally perceived to be a very good value and it's in a great location with easy access to the Theatre District and major subway lines. I was told that the halls are a bit dark but it's defintely in a veru safe and convenient area. Haven't stayed there myself but have eaten at the Cafe Edison downstairs - try it out - it's a classic NYC institution.

Couldn't agree more with Owen's post. If you do a search I doubt you will find many, if any, negative comments

The only negative thing I would say about the Edison, is that our room was quite tiny. However the location was great and it was a nice clean property.

I stayed there for around $140 3 years ago. Not bad, but sort of like a cheap motel in decor. Rooms looked like they hadn't been renovated in years. Great location though.

I haven't stayed there since then as I started using Priceline and now stay at 4 star hotels for under $100, which is a much better value.

Great location, I always felt safe. The lobby has been restored, the rooms and baths are very clean and the staff was friendly & fun! Can't go wrong.

Wonderful location, especially for Lincoln Center. I stayed there a month ago and found my room okay but shabby. Lovely breakfast room with buffet. I'd stay there again if the price was right.

Check prices at http://www.tourgang.com - they sometimes have excellent deals for the Empire.

Sarah, Amber was asking about the Edison, not the Empire. However, thanks for your insight on that property, I have sometimes seen it on travel websites for reasonable rates and wondered how it was.

From a Brit: I stayed here for 4 nights 2 years ago. It is in an absolutely perfect location for times square and all the shows. The lobby is fantastic, and the cafe downstairs, as someone else mentioned, is an institution. However, on a slightly more negative note, I agree entirely with Jory and couldnt have put it better myself; the rooms were rather tired and looked as if they hadnt been decorated for years. That nicotine brown effect! However, we took this in our stride and didnt let it get us down as everything else about the place and NYC in general was absolutely fantastic. Have a wonderful time
