After reading Kals posts and the postings of a young man who wants to propose in Italy, trying to find the perfect spot (Europe forums) I think we should all give our loved ones a Beeeg kiss and make our own fireworks

Kal! Excellent news about Mrs Kal! I raise my glass to her and to you and to her and to you and...when she is well, we'll all raise our together!

Fourth of July began early for us this year. We went to the San Francisco Giants-Oakland A's game last night, sitting at that wonderful ballpark with the fantastic views of SF Bay. Great game! Giants won 7-3! Barry Bonds hit another home run!

But best were the fireworks after the game! Special 3-D glasses were handed out and those fireworks sure lit up the entire sky! Bootiful! Bootiful! Most bootiful! We will probably do this again next year and every year thereafter. All-American baseball. Cross-town rivalry. Fantastic fireworks! Funny random shots of individuals in the crowd - soldout crowd!

I cried when America the Beautiful was played. After 9/11, America seems to be so much more precious - and beautiful.

Saw Spiderman today as part of our Fourth of July movie marathon. emd is spot on - much, much better than Spidey #1.

More movies tomorrow. Then the traditional barbeque. We were going to go to Crissy Field for the actual 4th fireworks, but last night's display was so great, we think we will skip Crissy Field this year.

Monday, more movies and more food! ><

Happy Fourth to everyone!

Kal,

Great news, and another reason to celebrate today!

I have to agree with you about UC Davis Med Center, and I'm glad to hear that it is still as great as it was almost 12 years ago when our little granddaughter was born at 24 weeks (one pound 4 ounces).

She was flown to UCD from Fresno when she was an hour old, and stayed there in the wonderful neonatal unit until December (she came home on her original due-date).

She is now a beautiful almost-12 year old who has no premie-related problems (plays the piano beautifully, and won the overall prize at her school's science fair this year).

One of her nurses from UCD still keeps up with her, and has visited her family (now in Alabama) twice.

Forgive my bragging, but she is such a delightful girl who overcame so much in her first few months.

Happy Fourth, everybody!

Byrd

I went to San Francisco for a friend's wedding! It was gorgeous. They don't even live there, it is just their favorite city. 80 east-coasters all traveled west for the wedding, she even flew her priest out there. it was simply beautiful. they hired FDR's presidential yacht for the reception, we cruised under the Golden Gate Bridge, glorious!

on the 4th, we huddled on a rooftop of a friend's home on Francisco street, watching the fireworks - what you could see through the fog!
