Making my annual Fourth of July trip to Canada. My friends laugh at the fact that I celebrate Independence Day by going to Canada, but it's a quick, cheap jaunt.

I will be seeing fireworks in Montreal.

We take our sailboat into Boca Ciega Bay, drop anchor and watch the fireworks all around us--St. Pete Beach in front of us, St. Pete behind us, and all the towns from SPB up to Clearwater Beach with their own shows, ending with a big display from the little town of Gulfport, where our marina is. There'll be a bottle of wine and good old fashion junk food, fried chicken and potato salad to keep hunger/thirst at bay. We'll spend the night at anchor, sail around the next day, then get in before the afternoon storms begin (hopefully).

Hey gang, imagine a flag is there.

When I type those, they just look like asterisks and equal signs. Why can I never be cool and get this stuff.

I'm starting our holiday weekend by surprising the kids, picking them up from camp early and taking them to see Spiderman II. I think that's an American thing to do and I loved Spiderman way before he was cool.
For those in D.C., the Natl. Museum of American History is currently having a great exhibit of historical baseball items from the Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame. I saw it in NY in 2003 and it is great. Love baseball.
On the 4th, we swim at one of the county rec centers and then I do what my son refers to as a "high class picnic" w/cold lobster, shrimp, and assorted other goodies, and we go down to the Potomac River and picnic. Then go to a vantage point on the VA side of the river and watch the D.C. fireworks. Too awesome to miss, and we miss the real crowds as we are on the VA side and far enough away from D.C. to make a quick exit. The first year we saw the firework that expolded and then formed a smiley face, I decided those fireworks are something we will not miss while we live here. Then Monday, going to see the Devil Rays vs the Orioles.
Spidey, baseball, fireworks, seafood, more baseball-- is it Friday yet?

Happy 4th everyone!

Having BBQ at my sisters (she's my twin and we're very close so try to spend a few hours together EVERY Sunday) then going home to have MORE BBQ with my husband, and watching fireworks while 'dancing' on the back deck!

We have a great three day 4th of July celebration with fireworks over the river tonight, tomorrow and a grand finale on Saturday. It includes a carnival, parade and concerts. For the past few years, I have been in charge of the volunteers in the park on the the west side of the river during the three days, but this year I'm taking a break and spending it with my grandkids up north. I'm sure next year will find me once again driving a golf cart through the throngs of people in the park, collecting money from the buckets at the entrances to the park, dropping off water to my volunteers, and trying to keep everyone happy.

Happy 4th of July to all!!!!

Scarlett,

How was Spidey-man?

Can't wait to see it and can't remember the last time I've read reviews that were as good!

mclaurie-the bugswife name is in honor of my husband, the theater freak. his aol is 'stagebug', so i am bug's wife! we go to the theater about 3 to 4 times per week on average. in fact, NYC theater is not enough for him. we also have subscriptions at the Bay St. Theater in Sag Harbor, the Papermill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ, and will be seeing 2 shows at Williamstown, MA this summer. And it looks like it will be theater in London for thanksgiving.

Lucky me, I have the opportunity to fork over hundreds to crowd onto a ship's deck and ooh over the display. Dinner is promised, an especially alluring one via buffet in a hundred plus of heat. The 4th is rather neat, though, my favorite. How do you make that flag wave? Can you do that with anything else?

As is tradition with me and Mr.R5
we will, I am quite certain, find ourselves spending at least a
few hours at the Home Depot store.
Now that's
American ain't it?

Not to worry, we will carve out
some time for a hike in Pt.Reyes,
a mountain bike ride and probably
a bbq involving fresh salmon and
a good Sonoma CA Pinot Noir.
><
Fireworks are questionable as our lovely town sits in a valley between
northern Marin County and Sonoma Mt.
Which means large amounts of FOG.
Additionally, our city council
voted money for the display to
be directed to fixing our potholes
-as a billboard on Hwy 101 states
we are the Capitol of.

Have a nifty 4th all!

Heading up to Steamboat Springs for four days of hiking, horseback riding, rafting, inner tube floating, swimming and general relaxation.

The 101st Cowboy Roundup will take place on the 4th, all in celebration of Steamboat's western heritage. We'll be there for the pancake breakfast, parade, cattle drive, free concert, arts & crafts fair, BBQ and evening fireworks.

Happy 4th everyone!

Heading from California to Louisville, Kentucky for the 4th - going to the horse races, then to the waterfront park to see Al Green and watch the fireworks over the Ohio River. We are pretty excited, as we've never been to Kentucky before.

The Goo Goo Dolls are performing a free concert downtown in Niagara Square followed by fireworks. My husband will be working, so maybe I'll talk my nephew into accompanying me and my son down to see it!

Spiderman was fun and even had sitting on the edge of your seat moments.
Alfred Molina is an excellent "bad" guy.

"Illegal fireworks"...words from my past life..NYC
Now..you can buy them in the grocery store, at stands in strip malls, I am amazed Florida is still standing with all these fireworks!
bugswife, every time the heat gets to me ( daily) I say that we are going to move to Williamstown. Such a beautiful town!!
Kal, to Mrs Kal and I hope the weeks fly by for you~
I wanna see the GooGoo Dolls !!
