There was a time that wherever I went, my iron went with me. Yay, even unto cruises and my first two trips to Hawaii, I took my trusty iron. I've tried to seek help for this, but it's useless.
Anyway, in recent years my iron has stayed at home (and it's mad too) due to the fact most hotels these days DO provide irons. Before you take yours along, I ditto the suggestion to call the hotel first.

Certainly your hot iron is germ-free (or at least itonly has familiar germs), it's the cover we're worried about!
I agree with the advice above: although not every hotel has an iron and board in every room, I have never encountered a hotel where you could not at least request to have them sent up from housekeeping for temporary use. I would never bother to schlep an iron in my luggage!
Plus, in asking about hotel rooms in the USA, you're implying that you might come from abroad, where the current and plugs on your iron might not be compatible with US electric service.
