Surprize, AZ sidetrips

I'll be staying with a friend in Surprize, Arizona in March. I was wondering about side-trips - about how long would it take to drive to Sedona - any other artsy areas. One day will be spent at a Cubs game. The people I'll be with have done the local museums so something different (not too strenuous) would be appreciated.

Last week we toured Frank Lloyd Wright's place Taliesin West in Scottsdale and really enjoyed it. Good interpretation of both him and his architecture.

If you are driving to Sedona stop off at Prescott and Jerome. Prescott is a working town with a fascinating living history museum (it doesn't feel like a western town.

From there head over the mountain to Jerome. An old mining town perched on the hillside with great views.

Carry on down to the hill to Sedona and the red rocks. Do it - you know it makes sense!

Both suggestions are well worth your time...I would also add a short trip to Wickenburg, not far from Surprise. Cute shops, a few galleries, good museum and a great dude ranch where you can have lunch at the ranch itself or looking out on the golf course.....Rancho de los Caballeros.....your friend can direct you to all the sites mentioned....incidentally, as I was growing up TOO many years ago, Surprise was absolutely nothing but a few labors'and field hands shacks, what a change.

Desertduds, a question please.

We are back in the area this spring heading from Scottsdale to Kingman and want to know what to do on the way. I am guessing Wickenburg is the stop for lunch but is there anything else worth doing or should we get up to Andy Devine country asap?!
