What would you recommend with a free day in Phoenix in November? Last year, we went to Tucson. That's about the farthest we'd want to go (2 hour drive)

Sedona? Spectacular red rock formations, hippy-dippy new age town.

Or stay in the area and visit Taliesin West http://franklloydwright.org/taliesin...tickets-tours/, Frank Lloyd Wright's winter home and school.

The Desert Botanical Garden https://www.dbg.org is also worth a visit, as is the Heard Museum http://heard.org.

We've been to Sedona, but a repeat visit is maybe in the cards! Thanks for reminding me it's not so far.

Pueblo Grande Hohokam archaeological ruins are very cool!

The Musical Instrument Museum is fabulous.

Have spent minimal time in Phoenix but have researched it some. Prescott might be an interesting day trip.

PS I lived in Phoenix and mesa for 25+ years. Highly recommend a day trip to Tucson, the drive is not pretty, but the az - sonora Desert museum is wonderful.

Musical museum in Scottsdale is terrific.

Second the recommendation for the Apache Trail.

Lost Dutchman State Park, Tonto National Monument, and Boyce Thompson Arboretum are all on that route. You can do it in few hours but it can also take the whole day.

sf7307, thanks for the feedback. Had been considering doing a day trip out to Prescott if/when I get to Phoenix, but am now reconsidering it (the town can be reached via airport shuttle). There are a few attractions out there:

-Courthouse Plaza and historic business district.
-Sharlot Hall Museum. 415 W Gurley St.
-Smoki Museum. 147 N Arizona St.
-Ft. Whipple Museum. Veterans Affairs Campus Bldg. 11, 500 N Ariz. 89.

but maybe it's not worth the jaunt.

Have already been to the Grand Canyon (both rims), Monument Valley, and Petrified Forest. Tucson looks uninteresting, especially without a car, and that goes for Tombstone and non-Grand Canyon Flagstaff, given what I've seen in research.

So maybe if I do get out there, should I just see Phoenix and Sedona, then leave it at that? Let me know what you think.

Sedona and have lunch at Enchantment Resort...hike at Boynton Canyon contiguous to gated resort..make reservations for lunch so name will be at guard gate.

Hit up famous Rock Springs Cafe for pie!
Exit with same name.. Turquoise Indian jewelry next door, open air..great stuff..cheap prices!

Head up to Saguro lake and take a cruise on Desert Belle..

Jerome is artsy and you can hit that from the back way from Sedona.

Sedona is stunning and you can hike the 7+ vortexes...vibe is truly invigorating of mind, body and soul.

Too bad your not there for dinner... Elote Cafe is one if the best Southwestern restaurants in US.

Payson and the drive through Tonto Forest is gorgeous.
Have lunch and hit up some antique/thrift places.

Cave Creek and lunch at Harold's Cowboy Saloon.

MoonFish, we’ve eaten at the Rock Springs Cafe on the way to Sedona!

The bar is cool at Rock Springs...very old cowboy vibe.

But the real deal is their pie..by the slice or whole and they do slice to go with or without ice cream...blueberry crumble, cherry, peach are some of my faves..

I'm so excited to get up to Sedona that a slice is good for us with a cup of coffee in the morning.

Pie for breakfast is the best, besides a Mexican breakky!
