What to see/do in Phoenix, AZ
Hi all,
I'm trying to put together an informational book together for guests that stay at my hotel, however I'm stumped for ideas. If you have any ideas of what to see and do in Phoenix please let me know what they are.
I'm looking for everything: restaurants, lounges, clubs, indoor activities, hiking areas, parks, festivals for this year. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
We are in North Phoenix (near 1-17 and the Loop 101) if that helps. I'm looking for anything in the Phoenix area, not just within a few miles.
Thanks

The Heard Museum is a must, as is Frank Lloyd Wright's Teliesin West. Visitors would probably be interested in the desert museum too. A drive through the historic district around North 13th Avenue is very nice.

Ah, yes, and I see you have dozens of replies on things to do.
FYI -- I have lived in AZ since 1966, and have made dozens of trips to Phoenix, weekends, weeks, etc. If you get responses with more than 5 things to really see, I would be surprised. That is why I said tell them to leave town. Send them someplace else, where they can really SEE our beautiful state.

the zoo. The botanical garden. Taliesin. Glendale antique district. Old Scottsdale. Canyon or Saguaro Lake. Carefree. Verde Valley Canyon RR (yes, out of town). The malls (what can I say, it's a draw for many many people). Golf courses. Casinos. Ranch Market can be like a trip to Mexico for the day.

I guess all I can say is that if anyone asks about any other ares of Arizona, including Tucson, they will get many more responses than zoo, casinos, golf courses, shopping malls, and lakes and towns 40 to 50 miles away.
So, whatever you might think of my response, I don't see that anyone else has really come up with anything constructive. And you will note that I din't invite anyone to Tucson. But, if you know so much about Arizona, Giro, perhaps you can come up with about a dozen interesting and unique things to see and do in Phoenix.
Actually, my only reason for responding is to top this thread so maybe SOMEONE, somewhere, will actually have something to suggest. I really would have thought that, since rain_monkey03 lives in Phoenix, he/she would have some ideas of what there is to see and do.

HI..
I love going to the Taliesan West but I agree that the best things in AZ are out of Phoenix but you can have alot of fun going down the Salt River Tubing in the summer.. We had such a blast! Saguaro lake is cool to hike and have lunch too..
I would have your guests check out the Cave Creek area and go to Four Peaks too.. In-n-Out Burger is a must for out of towners (east of AZ)and you can't forget the largest water fountain in the world at Fountain Hills!

Hiking:
Phoenix Mountain Park (Piestewa Peak - 500,000 hikers/year make the climb)
South Mountain Park - largest municipal park in the world
Papago Park - also home to the zoo and botanical garden
Camelback Mountain/Echo Canyon
The following parks are not in Phoenix, but are right on the edge of the metro:
White Tank Mountain Regional Park (West metro)
Estrella Mountain Regional Park (about 10 miles west of S. Mountain Park)
McDowell Mountain Regional Park (5-10 miles NE of Scottsdale)
Usery Mountain Park (on the edge of Mesa)
A little farther out is Lost Dutchman State Park and the Superstition Mountains. It's probably about an hour from you.
I don't know anything about restaurants, clubs, etc. You should mention the professional sports: Diamondbacks (baseball), Coyotes (hockey) Cardinal (football) and Suns (basketball).

Please offer your opinion of some places that co workers have come up with:
McDuffy's
Bobby Q's
Rent-a-Harley
The Desert Skydiving Center
Cave Creek Outfitters
Amazing Jake's
Copper Square
Arizona Science Center
Old Town Scottsdale
Phoenix Art Museum
Cosanti
Historic Downtown Glendale
Castles N Coasters
and Fiddlesticks
We have a pretty large list of things to suggest but we know there's more that we are missing and that's why we are asking for help here.
