Karen, the paths in Central Park will have slush and some puddles. At least, that was the condition on Tuesday, the day after the previous snowfall. Definitely wear boots.
The city streets should be much better for walking.

Karin, looks like bright sunshine for tomorrow with temps in the upper 30s. Tip: Don't forget sunglasses - the reflection off the snow can leave you squinting. Have a good trip!

Karin, just FYI, cabs in NY can take a max of 4 people. If you are planning on taking cabs, you will have to take two (not really a big deal at all, and will make the older teens feel grown-up). Just make sure that they know exactly where they are going, have enough cash on them and are comfortable with tipping (for short trips, round up to the nearest dollar and add a dollar). Have a wonderful time!

karinw, I walked thru the park this morning after dropping my son at school. I must say it was lovely - a totally different experience from the opening weekend. make an effort to go behind the Met at 80th Street and see the reflections off the glass windows that enclose the Temple of Dendur - quite striking.

In terms of footwear - the pathways in the park that I saw were actually already being cleared by 9:00AM - and the park drive was clear of any slush. The real challenge in NYC after any snow storm is the slush at the corners - everyone has to leap over huge puddles or wade through rivers of grimy melted snow. Boots are a must - and maybe an extra pair of socks. Have fun - it is supposed to be cold and bright tomorrow.

We're back from our trip.

I posted a trip report but somehow it ended up on the US form but not under New York. You can just click on US and you'll find it.

Thanks to everyone for all the hints and tips. We had a great time.

We want to plan an overnight stay in NYC so I'll be asking for some more help soon.

Thanks,
Karin
