I used the transderm scop patch on my recent cruise to Alaska. For first 3 days it seemed to work, but when we hit our first port and the cruise stopped... but I kept moving. It's now 8 days later, and I'm still
For clairfication- the patch is only good for 3 days. I sailed with people sailing Mexican Rivera- can be very rough sailing. They decided to forget changing the patch day 6 thinking it would be OK. Well- the ship hit swells with waves over the poop deck.
they were sorry.

Just an additional clarification. I used the patch for 3 days, then took it off, cleaned the area, and put the next one on behind the other ear... that's when, by coincidence, we hit our first port and I started feeling motion even though we were stopped. The Dr. said to discontinue the patch at that point to see if I was having some kind of reaction, so I did, but the moving kept happening, so that's when they said it was motion sickness. The now 9 day movement (seems to have mostly subsided) was all without the patch.
One tip from the ship doc that I thought was interesting for any patch users... when you take one off to change patches, make sure you clean off the area completely. If you stick another one on another area, without properly wiping off the first area, it apparently can lead to too much medication since the remnants from the first patch will still be administering medication if there was any left.
Anyway, from now on, I'll stick to land, but that said... it was an enjoyable cruise in every other respect and we had a fantastic land tour on our own the week before. No harm, no foul.

A friend experienced her first non-sick trip on a long plane ride and train ride snacking on ginger snaps.
While snorkeling at Buck Island, Captain Heinz "prescribed" sniffing of rubbing alcohol (sorry, no cocktail hour yet!) as a quick way to quell the quesiness. Both seemed to work short-term - I'm not sure about a cruise.
