Romantic Weekend in San Diego Hotel?
My wife and I are looking for a last minute long weekend trip from New York and settled on San Diego - we want to get some luxury, take surf lessons, have some great meals and enjoy the water. I had a question about what hotel would be best for this - we do want oceanfront and we would prefer somewhere cool or with character, but we also don't want too too many families around. Any ideas? I'm looking at the Del Coronado, the W, what is the best choice? Thanks

My husband and I searched for the same kind of vacation last year in S.D. We stayed at Lodge at Torrey Pines, which was very quiet. Because of the feeling of seclusion, and also the aromatherapy that surrounds the property (I kknow that sounds weird but it true), we found it really romantic and relaxing. The spa is fantastic, altough expensive. Food at hotel was truly excellent and a lovely surprise. Best bar mix I have ever had, and we enjoyed quite a few cocktails. Also liked being able to hike around the adjacent proprety. It is a short drive from the action of La Jolla.
Dining at Georges at the Cove (upstairs) is a must. We also dined in the formal dining room downstairs, and MUCH preferred the upstairs/outside atmosphere and great food.
Took surfing lessons in Pacific Beach, not LJ. Was a great way to spend a morning, and much more difficult activity than anticipated.
Hope this is a bit helpful.
