Hotel recommendations in the San Diego area?
Hi everyone,
We're working on the next San Diego update, and want to hear about your favorite places to stay in the city and nearby beach towns. Our goal is to present reviews for the properties YOU want, covering all prices and experiences, in about 80 selections.
Please let me know if you've had an excellent experience at any hotel/suites/apts in San Diego, La Jolla, Coronado, Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, etc. If we don't already cover it, I'll recommend it to the updater and editor for inclusion in the next edition.
If you'd like to see our latest reviews, click here: http://www.fodors.com/world/north-am...go/hotels.html
Thanks in advance for weighing in!

We enjoyed our stay at the San Diego Omni on our Marchh 2007 trip.
The room was spacious with a great view. The hotel has valet parking, but there's a self-parking garage next door where we parked for much less. Walking distance to Gaslamp District. The McCormick & Schmick in the lobby has a happy hour menu which is a very good deal. It serves a decent breakfast as well.

For our trip to San Diego, I did extensive research and checked many hotels including most of those on ksucat's excellent list.
We finally decided
(a) to choose La Jolla as a base and
(b) to stay at Scripps Inn.
We did not regret both decisions:
- La Jolla is very beautiful, with scenic coastline, seals, magical sunsets and with excellent dining options, all accessible by short walks.
- Scripps Inn is moderately priced, excellently located, has nice, charming rooms and offers priceless views on the ocean. We loved sitting on the porch and listen to the sounds of breakers, seals and birds.
Of course, we visited some other hotels which we had taken into consideration:
- La Valencia and the Grande Colonial have beautiful public areas, very stylish.
- We were glad that we had not stayed at Hotel Del Coronado. It was crowded with name-tag bearing convention guests and the beach cottages were directly facing the crowded boardwalk, thus allowing hardly any privacy. Overall the impression of fading glory.

Hi San Diegans and SD Visitors,
Thank you for your recommendations! Fortunately we review most of these properties, and we'll continue to do so!
For properties newly on the Fodor's radar, we'll dispatch an updater to consider them for inclusion in the forthcoming book.
Any time you'd like to send us your comments or recommendations, please email us at [email protected].
Best, Erica

We stayed at the Hotel Del Coronado for 3 nights during a 25th anniversary trip and loved this resort. We had a modest room in the Victorian section, right off of the main lobby. We loved the pool area, my husband had a massage at the spa, the beach is gorgeous where we enjoyed sunsets in the evening and both of the restaurants, The Sheerwater and 1500 Ocean were of the highest standards.
On our next visit to San Diego, we will definitely choose the Hotel Del Coronado again. The locations was convenient for days trips to La Jolla and SeaWorld. ***kim***
