"You shouldn't expect fidelity because it's very rare that it will happen. There are trade offs that come with being married to someone like that. I don't think it's something that I could live with but there are women out there who decide it's worth it to them for whatever reasons."
That mindset assumes that Elin is a gold-digger and, as such, got what she paid for. Pardon me, but that's a sexist, stereotyping, chauvinistic, arrogant huge load of crap.

are they "cheaters" because they are "celebrities?" Or are they "cheaters" who happen to be "celebrities" - or among the rich and famous? Do the stripes on an Alpha Male really change?
It's easy to Thursday morning quarterbacking and what someone MIGHT do ... but when it boils down to it, you don't know until you've walked in those shoes. What about all the marriages that have succeeded despite the "cheating," whether it's a one nite stand or a long-term affair - and they've been high profile powerful people?
Despite his squeeky clean reputation and the media not getting into Tiger's Tantrums and other implusive behavior, this seems to fit right in with the impulsive behavior. I want what I want and I want it now! We don't have a clue who the real "Tiger" (or any celebrity for that matter is) is. All we know is some brand that has been marketed.
Hey! if she can "renegotiate" the pre-nept and things have changed substantially financially since the marriage, good for her! If she wants to toss it all aside, good for her, but make sure it's not her "pride" that is running! Of If she wants to stay and work it out, good for her too! She'll have to learn to trust him again and that's a tuff one. Obviously they've had discussion previously and didn't trust him - she had a clue - obviously she wouldn't be peeking into his phone and he wouldn't have called in a panic to "fix" the caller id!
Every spouse expects fidelity - and some that people can really change. And they are shocked, just shocked, when they don't.

Adulation breeds spoiled egomaniacs.
So Tiger Woods excels in hitting a ball with a golf club. Big friggin' deal. Society rewards that with adoration and millions of dollars- an unhealthy and dangerous dynamic for all involved.
Fandom/Schmandom. IMO, the true 'celebrities' of the world contribute something worthwhile, and will forfeit any extravagant compensation, the lavish lifestyle, the 10 cars, 5 houses and yachts, to help those who don't know where their next meal will be coming from.

I didn't imply that Elin was a gold digger AT ALL. I have no idea what she expected from the marriage, I don't know her or her thoughts. I simply said there are some women who enter marriages knowing there are trade-offs and are ok with certain arrangements. Doesn't make them gold diggers either.
I find it hard to believe that people are so SHOCKED that Tiger cheated, or that any famous athlete cheats.

for heaven's sake, what do you expect when you are chosen because you are a Swedish model/au pair to famous golfers. Their whole marriage was based upon superficialities in the first place, that's what you get when some famous sports person marries you for your looks.

My BIL basically agrees with you, boots: he says it's easier to stay faithful when you are a an average-looking nobody without money. He doesn't excuse Tiger- and Kobe-ish behavior so much as he shrugs at it-- "what did you expect?"

Well I have no idea why TG married Elin and I doubt if anyone else does either but if I were Elin I would have already been to the doctor to check out if I had a STD or not. That would have been the very first thing I would have taken care of under the circumnstances.

Exactly what I think, NewbE. That's why my advice to Hillary would not be the same as for Elin. Well, not that I meant my earlier thread as giving advice - I was just running with the "pretend you are Elin- what would you do" theme. Of course I have no way of knowing for certain, but my guess is that the Tiger/Elin marriage was not negotiated like the Clinton's marriage.

This doesn't fit in with the "Pretend you're Elin" theme, but I just read on another website that Tiger's alleged mistress--well, one of them--just cancelled her press conference scheduled for this afternoon. Speculation is that Tiger's camp has been in hot and heavy negotiations with her to pay her off for her silence. Of course, the cat's out of the bag, but gossip has it that Tiger doesn't want more publicity than he's already got.
So how would you feel if you were Tiger, having to pay off this woman? Do you think he ever cared about her, or thought she cared about him? Might he have expected her to stay quiet out of concern for him? Does he feel betrayed?

As he obviously was allowing his pieces of a$$ to call him AT HOME on Thanksgiving, I don't think he will feel very betrayed or even really understand what the furor is about. He's been the golden boy for so long I don't think he feels he can do wrong.
I would have thought Tiger was smarter than to get involved with Las Vegas cocktail waitresses. It would be obvious to me that she would be only a phone call away from demanding $100,000 for a National Enquirer exclusive.
Stupid, arrogant, faithless, tightwad egomaniac.

Oh, ky, I hadn't thought of that angle! How awful.
LI, that's what I was thinking: maybe seeing his ho's parading in front of the cameras, selling his voicemails, and negotiating for payoffs will make him realize how worthless they always were, what a jerk he's been, and so on.
Or maybe he never expected anything better from them.

I'm with Wyatt92. I don't understand why Tiger's having an affair is such a surprise for some people. Also, I kind of doubt his wife is all that shocked that he's had, or is having, affairs. It seems to me one would probably weigh the odds, and know that there might be affairs if one marries a professional athlete or rock star, you know?
