Places to stay in the Lower East Side/Soho?

I am visiting my daughter in New York in early March. She lives in the Lower East side. I would like to find a reasonably priced place to stay for a few days in or near the Lower East side. Any suggestions?

As you can probably guess from the lack of responses, there are no hotels (that I'm aware of at least) on the LES. A few can be found in SoHo, such as the SoHo Grand, but they're not exactly convenient to the LES.

If you can't stay with your daughter, then I suggest the Union Square area. Plenty of hotel options and an easy subway or cab ride to the LES.

Good luck & Enjoy!

In doing a web search I saw the Off Soho Suites hotel on Rivington St which is the LES. Know nothing about it though & there aren't any reviews I could see on tripadvisor.com Another option might be near the South Street Seaport. There's a Holiday Inn on the edge of Chinatown but it gets very mixed reviews on tripadvisor.

There's also a HoJo's in the lower east side (houston St). It's only a couple of years old but I don't know anyone who has stayed there.

You could check The Larchmont in Greenwich Village (not that far).

Do you know where on the Lower east Side - around Rivington Street ? Around Bowery? Near Chinatown/ Or more near Houston St. - the east village.
None of the downtown hotels are really all that far from the LES - Soho Grand (pricy) is a 6 minute cab ride to Rivington (as long as it's not rush hour) Off-Soho suites (funky) a two minute walk. The W in Union Square(can be pricy too) is a quick subway ride or short cab ride to the Bowery.

There is a hotel on Thompson Street which is fancy, called maybe Thompson. Close to, not on Lower East Side.

You could look at Craigslist NY under sublet & short stays, and email someone who appears to be subletting for short periods, and make her an offer for the days you want -- for most people $100 a day is more than they are hoping for so they might accommodate you.

But -- you have to be adventurous, or enlist daughter to scout these things out. (Also probably to help you with location -- get HER to check out Craigslist maybe, she'll know what is near her.)

The Cosmopolitan is on Chambers Street but I know nothing about the hotel.

Go to PlacesToStay.com and take a look. There are a lot of hotels on that site that I've never seen on other sites. Quirky hotels which is what you will find downtown.

You could always stay in the Financial District. Lots of hotels there.

The Howard Johnson on Houston Street is your best bet, it's been recently renovated and I hear it's nice. Also next to a movie theater and I think they give tickets to hotel guests. Holiday Inn on Lafayette is also close. Off Soho Suites seems a little sketchy to me, it seems like one of a few flophouses that are now calling themselves hostels or low budget accomodations.

You may actually find a good deal with the Soho Grand, depending on when you are coming (March should be low). 60 Thompson is very pricey, as is The Mercer in Soho, but totally worth it if you can afford it.

The Larchmont is in the West Village and really nice if you don't mind sharing a bathroom. The Cosmopolitan is in Tribeca, not too far from the East Village but a bit southwest from you. I hear it's servicable but nothing great.

Good luck!
