Pineapple Inn, South Maui
Hi All: anyone have any experience with this B&B? Website looks great! Not exactly on the beach (3/4 mi. they say)but looks very lush and beautiful! Would like to hear from someone who's actually stayed there. Thanks!OSB.

I have not stayed here, but I know the house very well. My parents have looked at a house two doors down that is for sale.
The Pineapple Inn house is located in Maui Meadows, a residential community in Kihei. The lots are 1/2 acre and this one is nicely landscaped, but it is not as isolated as their marketing pictures make it look. The rental cottage is on the front of the lot. I think 3/4 mile to the beach is shaving it a bit--maybe as the crow flies. It's a mile and change from there down to my house and my house sits exactly .25 mile above the beach. But it would only be a few minutes drive to Kam III or Keawakapu beaches. You could walk it if you enjoy vigorous walks, as the trek back is uphill. The one downside to the location is the highway directly below the property. Their pictures are shot so as to not show the highway, but it is right there, just beyond the pool and rear garden. The lots on that side of Akala sit between Pi`ilani Hwy and Akala Dr, which is what made my parents decide against an otherwise very attractive property on that street. I think, though, if you were staying in the `ohana on the front of the property, this would mean less to you than if you were on the rear of the property. The house is rather large and sits between you and the highway.

enjoylife: The rate is $99 for a queen bed. A mini kitchen is in the room and it says it's stocked with fresh breakfast foods.
$165 for the cottage.
here today...That is interesting info...am I understanding you correctly that it is noisy or... not so private (enough to make you uncomfortable?).
We're also considering Mana Kai (on the beach). I was just trying to save alittle $$ and thought the Pineapple website looked so lovely. Will be on the beach 5 nights at Maui Kai and later at HHV on Oahu, so thought a lush place may even be a nice change? Oh well, I guess it's Maui Kai!? We want to be able to snorkle the So. Maui beaches.
Also, htg2m: Thank you for not holding a grudge for our interchange a week or so ago! I appreciate your kindness!

I don't know if it would be really noisy, certainly not like being next to a freeway in L.A. But the highway is there. It would kind of take away from that tropical hideway feel, at least for me. But, don't get me wrong, the place is very nice looking and I am sure that the cottage is comfortable. But if want to feel like you are escaping to a privare tropical garden I don't think you'll get that there. Maui Meadows is a great little community, but it is rather busy. Most of the people there can barely afford there homes and as a result, they often have rental units and often have roommates and tenants, so each lot has a pretty high density. It is not unusual to see five, six or more cars parked at a single home on a regular basis. I have many clients and friends there--it is nice place to live.

here today gone2Maui:
Many clients and friends there...may I ask what you do? Just curious!
Thanks for the info...I'm not sure the traffic would be a problem. I really don't want to be too far into the countryside!
My sis went to Kaui a few years ago and was very dissapointed in her B&B. Seems it was totally misrepresented...looked like a regular suburb and chain link fencing beside the hot tub...no privacy and no personal touch. She ended up in the Holiday Inn!!
However, she had a lovely B&B on the Big Island (same year) . They even installed an AC for her!!(I'm afraid I never had her powers of persuasion!)OSB.

My background is in advertising (art director), and my plan was to open a boutique agency here, but I quickly learned that on an island one does what one can find. So now I design surfwear and board graphics, do some advertising, marketing and promotions, publication design, print brokering and project management, identity development, and even a little database development--and pretty much just about anything else people are willing are pay or barter with me to do for them.
I think the Pineapple Inn will be a bit better than your sister's experience--at least the property is nicely landscaped. I did notice some new construction going on a ways down the street. It looks like they have just graded the lot. But there is always some kind of work going on around there during the day. Come to think of it, there is construction going on in just about every neighborhood on this dang island anymore!
