Paris vs. Venetian

I've booked Paris for $99 a night which I think is a fantastic rate and I think my wife and I will be very happy there.

I did notice that we could stay at the Venetian for $149 a night for their suite rooms, which all of them are. So for $50 more we could have a suite.

So I guess my question is....is the Venetian a big step up that it would be worth the extra $50 a night. Or should we just be happy with Paris and spend the money gambling! Obviously having a suite room at the Venetian versus a regular room at Paris is better, but I'm not sure we really need that. I tend to overthink these things sometimes!

Personally, I would go with The Venetian for $149. Paris is very nice - I've stayed there three times, but $149 is a good rate for The Venetian. I always like a big hotel room, so I would lean towards the suite.

And me, I'd go the other way. I like having a decent room, but having a really nice room just doesn't mean anything more to me than a decent one would, so I'd rather have the money for something else.

But, having stayed at neither I can't offer a direct comparison. Reviews here do indicate, though, that Paris is pretty nice! And I like its location better than Venetian's.

I'll readily admit that I've never been in a Venetian Suite, so maybe I'm wrong. But I've been in a lot of suites where I wish that it had all been one room. Often the separate bedroom of a suite is quite small, just a small room around three sides of the bed. The living area may be equally small. Sometimes I think if the whole area was one large open room (and some other hotels offer just about as much square footage in one big open room as others two in two room suites) I tend to feel it is more spacious than the two rooms. On the other hand if one person being able to go to bed and close the door while the other is watching TV in the living room is important, then there is a good advantage to the suite.

Spend the difference on gambling! This is Vegas after all!

The Paris is fine.

I've stayed at both Paris and Venetian, and both were very nice. $149 is definitely a good rate for Venetian, so if it's a place that you think you would like to stay at "one of these days," then I would take the rate there. The Venetian suite we stayed in was more like one large room than 2 small rooms. The living area was divided from the bedroom area by a few steps (think of a sunken living room) and was a very open space.

Bottom line, though -- how much time do you plan to spend in your room? If you're a room relaxer, you might enjoy the more spacious suite...otherwise Paris would probably suit you fine. Either way, you can't go wrong.

Patrick - I know what you mean about suites. The Venetian's are, I believe, around 700 sq. ft. though, so probably pretty nice size in all areas!

Still doesn't seem worth the extra $$ to me, but we all have different priorities.

Paris has the better location, and, some of their rooms offer views of the Bellagio fountains. Also, you might wish to check into a corner room at Paris because I hear they're bigger than the standard rooms.

Haven't seen the rooms, but we felt the lobby/gambling areas and shopping areas at Paris were useless smoke-filled places. Very little feel for what is supposed to be a Parisian street scene. On the other hand the Venetian offers spectacular areas mimicing Venice. Infinitely more pleasant to be in, right down to the gondoliers.

That's funny xkenx - We felt exactly the opposite. Paris's casino and shopping areas seemed really fun, with parts of the Eiffel tower coming into the casino, and many areas looking like entrances to Parisian metro stations. But Venice felt extremely fake and plain, especially the gondoliers on their chlorinated "canals".

Different strokes for different folks!

We stayed at Paris last summer and loved it. Unless you really need the extra space, IMHO, Paris would be fine and you could put the money you save toward a show, gambling, shopping or a nice dinner. Unlike xkenx's post - we found Paris to be a very nice casino and enjoyed it a lot - it wasn't any smokier than any other casino. The restaurants are great - I really enjoyed the cafe and ordering a chocolate croissant with omelettes for breakfast. The shops are nice too, and there's a walkway which connects you to Bally's which is convenient. Also - we much preferred Paris' location to that of the Venetian because we really liked the Bellagio fountains and the Desert Passage shopping center in the Aladdin, which is right next door.

AL, where'd you hear that? Request a corner room at Paris (the room number ends in "P". We just stayed in 1649P and it was quite large with 2 seating areas. The view wasn't the best but I'd imagine all the outside corner rooms are this size.

For what it's worth at this point, I would echo beanweb24:
"The Venetian suite we stayed in was more like one large room than 2 small rooms. The living area was divided from the bedroom area by a few steps (think of a sunken living room)."

The suite is long and narrow, with the bathroom and beds closest to the door, with the "living room" next to it and down a few steps.

With the suites you also get a check in/out desk separate from the masses, which struck me as fairly useless, and access to outdoor semi-private hottubs. (These are connecting pools cleverly arranged in little grottos; the caveat is, who wants to soak in a hot tub when the weather is in the 3 digits?)

Oh, and the suites come with a fax machine and turn-down service, if that turns your crank.

Thanks for all the advice! It is very appreciated! I agree it depends on the person and what they like. I really think Paris will be fine for us and we can take the 3 nights savings of $150 and do something fun. I just hate passing up such good rates I guess!

We stayed at Paris in January and liked it just fine. The room was pretty small but it was pretty, functional and well decorated. Wonderful bathroom with a separate shower and bathtub. The best thing about Paris is its location--right smack dab in the middle of everything. Venetian's not out of the way--just a bit further north. On the other hand, that's where Wynn is, as well as the mall, so location isn't that big of deal.

Buzzer -it sounds like you are describing the Venezia Tower. All rooms are suites at the Venetian but only those in the Venezia Tower have separate check-in and private pool area.
