Oklahoma romantic retreat

Looking for a romantic retreat for a weekend in January or February. Right now I am considering Grand Lake, Oklahoma. It is an easy drive for my friend and I and there are cabins with fireplaces and hot tubs.

Would like to hear comments on any of the resorts there or in that corner of Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma & Arkansas.

I'm trying to stay about $150 a night.

DH and I have stayed at Miner's House, outside of Pittsburg, several times. It's a cabin on an old mining strip. It has two bedrooms, a deck and a large kitchen and living room. It's really cute inside with antique furnishings. The price is right too, I think $60 a night.

This is the website: http://www.apexcorp.com/~gplace/miner.html

If that link doesn't work Google The Old Miner's Guest House Pittsburg.

Frontenac is by Pittsburg. It has an Italian grocery that's got a lot of Italian specialties.

Also, you can't go to Pittsburg without visiting Chicken Annie's or Mary's

Thank you. Its not what I am looking for for this weekend, but I have bookmarked it for another time.

I prefer Jim's Steakhouse or the 1106 Drive-in

Keith,

Last time we were down that way we went to Jim's Steakhouse. It was good. I really don't get the fried chicken and spaghetti thing though. I haven't heard of 1106. I'll have to ask DH about that.

Let us know where you went and how it was. DH and I like knowing of places for a weekend getaway. I'm pretty sure you and us live in the same city. Starts with an O, one word.

Keith, be sure and visit the 1106 soon, as it's for sale.

Logical destination: Table Rock Lake/Branson area. Check out Branson Resorts at www.accessresorts.com or the upscale Chateau on the Lake at www.chateauonthelake.com.

Chicken Annie's/Mary's? Once upon a time these were popular...back when people ate greasy friend chicken.

Perhaps Keith has already left for his retreat. I don't imagine he'll do much swimming this time of year, but at Grand Lake, water quality has become quite the issue. I would not choose to eat any fish from the lake.

We enjoy the Roaring River area with the trout hatchery.

Anne, I thought he meant anywhere in KS, MO, OK, or AR, but I guess you're right, he's focusing on that particular area. Oops. annieladd

Keith,

My husband and I stayed one night at the Pine Lodge cabins on Grand Lake in Feb. of 06. I have included a link for you.

http://www.neok.com/~pinelodge/

The cabin we stayed in had a grill on the deck, a fireplace and a hot tub. We were only there one night and chose to grill some steaks rather than go out to dinner.

The cabin was clean and in good condition. Nothing fancy but we enjoyed our one night.

Hi --

I've heard about a B & B near Independence, KS that sounds very nice. Its name escapes me right now, but it is something British-sounding, like Glencliff. It has a website and a quick search would probably bring it up. I haven't stayed there, just thought that it might be nice for a future stay...

Thanks for the advice.

I've lined up places for both this weekend (though a storm may cancel that weekend) and the following. I'm holding off until I have actually visited the places before commenting on them.
