need suite ideas

I guess I posted this on the US site without realizing it. I'm sure I'll get more help in NYC site.
Five of us (2 sisters, husbands and our mother) will be traveling to NYC in June. We would like to stay in a suite and need ideas of which ones are recommended. So far, my sister has heard that Embassy Suites near the financial district is nice and reasonably priced ($250/night), but I'm wondering if that's the best area for us. My husband and I have been to NYC a few times, but it's a first-time trip for our companions. Activities we are planning include a Yankees game, Broadway shows, walking the Brooklyn Bridge and trying to get tickets to shows like Letterman, Regis etc.
I think we should be closer to midtown, but I don't want to stay right in Times Square. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Annie - for clarification, there is no NYC site. Selecting a state from the drop down menu merely helps people searching. All posts are displayed in the general US forum.
To answer your question about the Embassy Suites - it's a perfectly find hotel, but the location could be a drawback for some. I work across the street from the hotel. It's a ten minute walk to the nearest subway, and there aren't many tourist attractions within walking distance. There is a free shuttle to the Seaport, or you could walk (25-30 minutes). If you take the subway, it will take you roughly 30-40 minutes to get to midtown. There are some good restaurants in Tribeca within about a 15 minute walk. The restaurants immediately around your hotel tend to cater to the office workers and close early. The general area is pretty dead at night. On the other hand, the river and it's recreation opportunities (walks, jogging) is quite convenient, and it is a pretty area of Manhattan.
Other posters can provide you with suite alternatives.

You might also want to consider renting an apartment for that many people. We are going in Feb and thats what I ended up doing for much less than getting a suite or two hotel rooms. A google search for New York Apartment Vacation Rental will bring up many links to rental agencies.

We spent a week at The Benjamin, last April, and enjoyed it very much. Our elegant suite had a small kitchen, livingroom with a sofabed and one bath. You could get a couple of suites there and a room for your mom. Check their site for specials.

Don;t know if Embassy Suites can put 5 adults in one room.
For midtown and moderate prices you might try affinia.com. They have several all suite hotels with a variety of configurations (suite, 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom) - so you can get as many rooms, beds and baths as you want - both to have some privacy and so you won;t be falling over each other.
