Maui in October
I will be traveling to Maui for the first time in October and staying at the Hyatt. I would love any suggestions on where to eat and what to do while I'm there. Is Hana worth the drive and is the surf as rough as I hear it is on Kaanapali Beach? Thanks for your help.

We have stayed at the Kaanapali Resort twice,,both times in late July,so not positive about the surf in Oct, but dont think "winter" has set in yet, so the surf should be about the same..
which is VERY light..the north shore,
up around Kapalua gets the heavy stuff..
As for places to eat..Lahaina, just south of Kaanapali has MANY great places to eat. I would highly recommend
Longi's. Great Italian, and great place to catch the sunset,,Cheeseburger in Paradise has good food and drinks also..
The road to Hana is definetly worth the trip..Its a WHOLE day though..
You can either buy a cassette tour tape
for $20, or may be able to get one from
your hotel, that tells you points of interest alone the way. We thought it was very helpful..If you go, dont miss
the Seven Sacred pools.IMO..they are worth the trip all by themselves..
Other things to do..Drive up to Haleakala..Iao Valley is a short scenic
drive...there is a new aquarium that is really neat..
I scuba and snorkel..wont go into that
here..if your into that, you can e mail
me and i can suggest some great areas..
Aloha

For a "nice" dinner out, try David Paul's in Lahaina, or Roy's (don't miss the chocolate souffle there). Kimo's in Lahaina is a nice casual restaurant.
Great 1/2-day snorkeling trips through the Pacific Whale Foundation - non-profit that hires oceanography students to tell you all about the ocean life - they're quite enthusiastic, which makes it more fun. Have a great time!

My favorite Maui restaurant is Nicolina in Kahana. My wife's favorite is Avalon in Lahaina.
LOTS more Maui info, restaurants, sights, activities, hotels, etc, is in the 30-page paper you can print from this web site:

We did the road to Hana ourselves, because it was our first time to Hawaii. IMHO, now that we stayed on Kauai in Princeville, I would tell anyone not to do Hana on Maui, if you will also visit northern Kauai. The waterfalls, lush tropics, sounds, etc. are right there in northern Kauai, without spending the day on the road to Hana and back. If Maui is the island you do without Kauai, then I guess Hana is a nice day trip (10 hours rt with stops).

Bring an outfit for Halloween!! Lahaina is the best place on the planet to do all the fun festivities that make up Halloween. http://www.lahainahalloween.com has the times of the contest and some good pictures. Bring your kids for the childrens parade at the beginning of the day. There's really nothing like enjoying Halloween in a beautiful place like Maui. See you there!

LOL Dusty!!!!!
How are the trade winds? We are having a lovely September in Massachussetts. Blue skies, warm days, cool, crisp nights and the leaves are turning. The gifts of the seasons until the cold settles in. Apples are ripe, and life is good! Alooooooha!
