Maui & Oahu -- book shows now or wait til we get there?

Should I make reservations for things like luaus etc. now or wait til we get there in October? I am thinking about low season in other resort town I've been to...almost ready to give things away...well I did say almost!

Old Lahaina Luau, Maui, considered by many to be the best of the island, sells out far in advance and assigns seats based on date of reservation. I believe that you may reserve now, and cancel later (perhaps 1 day out), without penalty.

Absolutely book now. It's not like NY where you can wait until the day of a show and get 50% tickets...LOL.

Old Lahaina Luau was very nice but no fire dancers and they don't teach you to hula or bring people up with them.

Polynesian Cultural Center on Oahu is by far the best Polynesian dancing experience.

Their evening 'Horizons' (7:30 pm) show is the best show in all of Hawaii. Great fire knife dancing included. Over 100 performers in Horizons as compared to 15-20 at any other show.

$50 ticket includes Horizons, seven villages each with their own show/demonstration, a canoe pageant, canoe rides and IMAX.

An $80 Ali'i Luau package includes everything above plus the 5 pm Ali'i Luau dinner show. It also includes a lei greeting and upgraded seats for Horizons.

You can make reservations at:

www.polynesia.com

$36 coupon in Entertainment Book for PCC.

www.entertainment.com

Drums of the Pacific at the Maui Hyatt has the best fire knife dancer on the island.

Old Lahaina Luau does not have a fire knife dancer. That is the highlite of any Polynesian show.

In Waikiki, Creation: A Polynesian Journey is a great Polyesian show. It is not a luau, but musch the same. Has the best dancers on Oahu and a good fire knife dancer.

Fire dancers may be "the highlight of any Polynesian show," but the Old Lahaina Luau does not profess to be Polynesian. It holds itself out as authentic Hawaiian. No dancing bears or boxing kangaroos, either.

I would like more information about the Creation show. I am not too keen about food with a Luau, but would like a really nice Hawaiian show with some hula and firedancing...Is this show kid appropriate?

Would like to make reservations for the Polynesian Cultural Center with a coupon from the entertainment book. Is that possible to do that online? I e-mailed them but received no reply!

Really authentic "Hawaiian shows" do not have fire dancing.

Lex1 is right. I've been to several luaus - some with fire dancing which IS cool - but OLL was my favorite. It's focus is on the history of Hawaii and the beauty and purity of HULA.

I think they have a 1-800 number and I phoned. But they will charge your card the full price until the day of the show, they will adjust the price at that time (if you ask and put the coupon in their hand). DO tell them of the coupon though.
