Lodging in SLC?

Hola! Would anyone know of a Hotel/Motel that offers Lifts/Lodging Packages to Park City/Deer Valley/Canyons? Many offer for the 2 Cottonwood Canyons, but I'm stumped for the others.

Also, overall, which of these is better (especially the Breakfast): Hampton Inn Murray, Fairfield Inn Salt Lake City South, or Best Western Cottontree Inn?

Thank you.

Hi G,

If you want to ski Park City/Deer Valley/Canyons, why don't you stay in PC? There are a couple of budget hotels at the Kimball Junction area (5 miles to Canyons, 7 mi. to PC). Try the Holiday Inn Express and the Hampton Inn. Sorry, I can't say what their packages might be. There used to be a 3 area combo pass for PC/DV/C.

Hampton Inn, Murray or Best Western Cottontree Inn, Sandy????

We've narrowed it down to these 2 motels for 14 nights, which one BETTTER Breakfast, better ROOMS, better POOL/Jacuzzi?? Also, which surrounding area is nicer?

Gracias.

Hi again G,

Sorry I can't help you. Since I live here I've never stayed in the hotels. I've driven past both and they are in commercial areas. Not dangerous, but not that nice either. The Sandy location will be a longer drive to Park City.

Good luck!

Sandy is basically suburban sprawl. Have stayed in the Sleep Inn Sandy on a ski package and seen the Super 8/Motel 6?? next door. Nothing special but both had pools and such. We spent 10 days. It seemed like many places offered similar deals and everywhere had plenty of rooms so once you are there you could shop around. We were there in Feb.

One question, why would you not want to ski the 4 resorts offered by the Sandy hotels? We stayed in Park City one year and drove to Alta. The SLC traffic is no picnic in bad weather. If you want to ski Park City stay there and save by not having a rental car.
Enjoy the powder.

Tks Dayle and greenfieldhunter. We're not sure about staying in Park City because we may like the Cottonwood resorts better; also, we will explore Snowbasin, which from all reports seems to be agreat Cruiser mountain.

Is the trip to Snowbasin from SLC more than 45 minutes?

Thank you.

Gpaul - Mapquest says it's over an hour to Snowbasin from Sandy. It may take longer if you hit traffic or if the roads up the canyon are bad. The area in Sandy is much nicer than the Murray area and the Cottontree is a much newer hotel. The Cottontree is close to a shopping mall and lots of restaurants and movie theaters. I'd definitely choose the Cottontree over the Hampton Inn.

Wedrove past Snowbasin on our way to Powder Mt while staying in Sandy. We just wanted a change and had heard great things about PM. It took more than 1 hour but was worth it.

The 4 Cottonwood Canyon resorts are the real deal.

Hello again, back with some more questions: We've chosen the Crystal Inn Downtown, at least for the first 7 nights. Would anyone know if it is a "nice, walkable, safe" neighborhood? I jog at 5AM...

Thank you.

I wouldn't jog in downtown Salt Lake when it's dark at 5 a.m., but if you are going to, avoid the Pioneer Park area (west of your hotel.)

BarbaraS, just what I needed, sadly.

Dayle, address is 230 West 500. Bad section of town?

G,

As Barbara said avoid Pioneer Park. Like all cities, downtown SLC does have homeless folks and Pioneer Park is where they hang. You really could do better with hotel choices.....there are other Crystal Inns in other parts of the valley if you like whatever they are offering you.

Dayle, Thanks again. We may after all stay in Sandy or thereabouts instead of Downtown since we will ski SBird/Alta the first 5 days, then Park City resorts for 7 days, and finally Snowbasin for our last 3 days.

You're the Park City expert, so I bother you again for your thoughts on the following properties: Carriage House, Prosp. Sq., Prospector Square Lodge and Conference center, The Yarrow, Shadow Ridge Hotel and Conf. Center, Park Plaza on Sidewinder Drive, Chateau Apres Lodge; quality and location being the important issues since we will probably use the free shuttle to all 3 mountains.

I mention these because via Internet they are the most economical, and I think it is more fun to stay in the City rather than on-mountain. Park City is one of THE Ski Towns in USA!

I sincerely appreciate and respect your opinions, and look forward to your reply before making a move.

If ANY OTHER Savvy Park City lover/dweller want to offer advice, GRACIAS!

Hola G,

My opinion on these properties:

Shadow Ridge has the best location. Right across from the base of Park City Mtn Resort. It's a nice property.

The Yarrow also has a good location. It's within walking distance of many conveniences, movies, restaurants, grocery store, sports stores. It's on a very busy corner in town and surrounded by parking lots. Once you're inside you don't notice this.

Please do not stay at the Prospector Inn or Carriage Square. Very, old dumpy condos. I wouldn't send anyone there. Of course, you could get lucky and get one where the owner has actually put some renovation money into it, but don't count on it!

The thing visitors don't understand about Park City is that the base of PC Mtn Resort is only about 3 blocks from Historic Main Street. There are continuous, free shuttle buses everywhere and it's an easy walk from the mountain to Main Street. None of the places you mentioned are right on Main Street. Only the Marriott Summit Watch is.

Shuttle buses will take you to Deer Valley and the Canyons from the transportation center in about 10 minutes.

Your plan to stay in Sandy while you ski Alta and Snowbird is great! Sounds like you have a great trip and plenty of time. If you haven't skied our mountains before, don't worry about going out jogging in the morning. The skiing will give you all the exercise you can handle!

Have fun!

Dayle, gracias! You're insight is very valuable. Any comments on Chateau Apres Lodge? It seems Ok., and very close to PCMR and Main St.

Besides this one and the ones previously mentioned, if you come up with others by all means let me know. [email protected] is my e-mail if you prefer. Cheers!

Hola G,

I haven't been in Chateau Apres. It's one of the oldest places in PC and it does have a great location. Sorry I can't tell you what it's like inside.
