Kauai is very low on A/C options, not because people don't need it, but because the power grid could not support it. So you are helping the planet, but not voluntarily!
A week in Kauai in August in a sun-drenched condo was not so fun. It does not cool down at night, so your windows and doors are wide open when you try to sleep (not safe when you're on the ground floor). It's basically like being outside 24 hours a day.
When I travel I look for relief from my state's blistering heat and humidity, and Kauai in August (Poipu Beach) did not fit the bill. A/C at night, at the very least, would have gone a long way toward making this trip more bearable.

We lived on Kauai for 6 years. Nobody has central air in their houses because it would be too costly to run it. But most everyone I knew had a unit in the bedroom that was on 24 hours a day. We would not have survived without it!
