I am very sensitive to the heat and we like it cool at night when sleeping so I alaways make sure there is a/c in our rooms(but we go in Aug.) I don't think the heat will be a problem in Oct. The humidity gets to me in Kauai. If humidity doen't bother you, I wouldn't think there is anything to worry about. Just make sure there are ceiling fans.

Kauai gets very hot and also cold in the winter at night. Oct is hard to tell. Sept is usually VERY hot so it may still be hard to deal with. When we lived there my visiting family couldn't handle it. They would just sit around in their underwear in front of the fan. LOL!

We have been in Kauai in June, July, August, and October. Our condo in Poipu does not have air conditioning. Very few do, though the hotels usually do. We asked real estate agents about this and were told that most feel ac is not needed at the ocean because of the trade winds that blow in from the sea. We have found that you have to leave windows open on both sides of the condo so that the breeze can blow through. In a hotel, typically you can't open windows on the "hall/door" side, so you can't take advantage of the breeze, and hence, the need for ac. That being said, one summer while my wife was going through "the change", she felt very uncomfortable unless we were in the air-conditioned car. Otherwise, we have never considered it a problem. Also, on vacation, I never dress in anything besides a bathing suit, shorts, and a short sleeved shirt. If I had to wear a coat and tie, the lack of ac would be a problem. And, the time we went in October seemed to be cooler than the summer months. I'm sure you will be fine. We are going this year September 15-29 and can't wait.

We stayed at a condo in Poipu in August of last year and never felt a need for A/C. We were very comfortable with trade winds blowing at night and cooling off the condo. Just make sure the condo you rented has cross ventilation (windows that can be open on two sides of the room). The complex we stayed at (Poipu Sands section of Poipu Kai resort) had a lot of plumeria trees planted all around and the fragrance coming in through the open windows at night was great.

It gets warm and humid at night, the breeze may help a little bit but I think you'll need a room with a/c.
We were there in Jan when is cooler and even though we are from FL which is hotter than Hawaii, we had the a/c and the ceiling fan on all the time.

Was in Kauai in Late Sept in a condo near Poipu (Koloa Town) and while it was warm we did not need air conditioning. The bedrooms and living areas had ceiling fans and keeping the doors and windows open at night made it very pleasant. We never thought we needed ac.
PS we were on the second floor. Don't know how comfortable I'd be if we were on the ground floor.
