Hello all!

We are planning a trip to Kauai sometime late next year and were wondering if there are any condos on Kauai with air conditioning? We've been to Maui twice and had no problem, but I'm having difficulty finding anything on Kauai. Any suggestions or ideas? Oh, and both my husband and I get hot very easily, so we prefer to have A/C (the trade winds and the ceiling fans probably wouldn't cut it!).

Well we're just back from Kauai and if you are planning a trip at this time of year I really don't think you need A/C. We had good weather but it really cooled down at night, we had windows open but didn't even need the ceiling fan on.

Agree with Sue. I go to Kauai for a month each Feb. and have never felt the need for air conditioning. I really think the evenings cool off enough that you won't feel too hot. When I have felt a bit warm, I open the lanai slider and windows, or use the overhead fan. The nights are very seldom muggy or without a nice breeze.

This question constantly comes up. You do only want the air conditioning in summer. I usually find myself needing it in August but only during the day and not everyday. I am guessing the enviromental impacts are too great because it is difficult to find on Kauai unless you are at a hotel. Hanalei Bay Resort has it but I prefer a stand alone condo away from complexs. This usually means a second home someone is renting out. You get more space, quiet and privacy but the down side is no air.

yeah Kelly if you are going in Winter you want to ask yourself if you get hot in 70 degree weather with a breeze. That is usually what the temp. drops to on Kauai. I don't even like to swim in that weather and I feel the heat easily too.

Agree with the above in that if you go over say from Nov thru Feb. and have a ceiling fan, it shouldn't be a problem.
But, I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Especially if you can't tolerate heat easily.

Kal do you normally have air where you stay? Pretty good deal for the money you pay.

I usually provide all the hot air but yes we do have a wall mounted a/c unit.

In the 10 trips over, I recall using it only once and that's when we couldn't get the room we wanted (remodeling) and we got the afternoon sun.

Even then we only ran it for a few mins. to cool up the room then it was ocean breeze and the sound of the waves.

The Regency Codos at Poipu Beach have air conditioning. It's really the only ones that I found that do.

(Hi Kal!) Our first night on Kauai we slept with the sliding door open to our balcony and all night long I was aware of the wonderful scent and balmy breeze. I dreamt I was in paradise! With air conditioning on, we would have missed that memorable feeling. We were never too hot on Kauai, only a couple of days on Maui.

Hanalei Bay Resort also has air.

Only problem with many of these units is that you are stuck in a complex. I prefer a stand alone property.

I found a unit at VBRO at the Sealodge that has air. It was only 1200 a week also. I think it was d7 and you can find it on the VBRO.com page.

Yeah most people like Air Conditioning Kelli when they have never experienced the trade winds without air. Ask yourself this. Ever had a windy, overcast day at 70 in early June? Are you putting on the central air, I don't and that is winter in the islands. Yes some areas get sun but frequently there are clouds. Even if you do have sun you have cool winds during the day and during the night. I have had air in August on Kauai and turned it off. At home I start the air when the humidity sets in along with the heat and it is on 24-7. If the heat in my building is too strong the air will come on in winter. Just don't see the need in Hawaii but it is hard to tell people this, you kind of have to experience it yourself. I know you say you have been to Maui twice but you never elected non-air rooms so you would not know. Just a thought some people love to sleep under heavy blankets at night and blast the air. I do this some times. Just remember you won't hear the birds or evening rain which I love. Also I would not compromise on location for the air.

Anyway good luck don't mean to be dramatic here. So jealous you will be seeing the whales!!!
