Chicago - Best Family Restaurants

Message: My kids are 10 and 7. We will be in Chicago for a weekend in March. What "can't miss" restaurants would you recommend? Is the food decent at the ESPN restaurant (my son wan't to go)? I hear Ed Debovics is fun on a Saturday night - will adults enjoy the food? I also read that Pizza Capri is very good (better than Uno and Due).

There are so many places, its hard to narrow. I take it you will be staying in the River North/Michigan Ave neighborhood?

Personally, as an adult, I have a blast at ESPN zone every once in a rare while. It is a gigantic arcade with virtual reality rides, like skiing or car racing. If you get in a goof-off mood, it can be really fun. I have never had the food, but it looks like the kind of place that would have standard fare. It also has a gigantic sports viewing area (obviously) where you can eat. If that sounds like your cup of tea.

Since this is a Fodors site, I feel compelled to mention that Fodors has a book called "Fodors Around Chicago with Kids (2nd Edition)". It costs $11. This should be chock-full of suggestions....

Our kids loved ESPN Zone and Debevics. Given the choice, they would chose Debevics over ESPN. Chicago has exceptional restaurants but these are fine choices for family meals. Also, the Chicago pizzarias are a great choice. Also, they may like the Cheesecake Factory or the Grande Lux Cafe if they're not in your area. chains, but high quality and huge selection. Save room for dessert at the Grand LUxe-they bake to order and your desert comes fresh from the oven. You might also try the Billie Goat for lunch-it was made famous for its cheeseburgers on Saturday Night Live.

Italian Village is a good choice for families. ESPN and Debevic's are also good.
