My sister has just moved to Annapolis and is hosting a family weekend for 4th of July. My husband and I won't fit into her house so we are looking for an Inn or B&B nearby. We are willing to spend up to $200 or a little more for someplace extraordinary. We like our creature comforts. Any suggestions? TIA.

I'm thinking - I'm thinking and trying to quickly put my thinking cap on!! One problem I keep coming back to is that you'd like something EXTRAORDINARY. I have not come up with that yet.

There is a B&B on a boat in the Annapolis area!! Many of the B&B's in town are in the historic area and I don't know if that extraordinarily what you're looking for. How about a beautiful old inn on State Circle that looks out at the State House in the front and down at the city and the wharf from the rear and I believe it's called State Circle Inn. Down on the waterfront you'll find the Marriott and it's very nice - situated on Ego Alley and you can easily walk to everything on our cobble-stoned streets. Then there's Loew's - a much newer hotel with many of the acoutrements you'd like but located slightly on the fringe of the historic district and not really where most of the Annapolis happenings are.

Annapolis is NOT that large a city so please give me some ideas of what you would like in the extraordinary mode.

Not familiar with Annapolis B&B's, but if you are looking for the 4th of July, I would book something soon.

I would think your sister might be able to help since she is now living there. Have you done an internet search?

Rams Head Inn is a great place for lunch, dinner, or just a couple of brews.

The Annapolis Inn is fantastic. My family stays there a few times a year as my brother is at the Naval Academy and I have stayed there twice myself. The innkeepers, Alex and Joe, run a beautifully decorated Inn and serve a breakfast not to be forgotten. I fear this may be a bit more than $200 per night but it is definitely worth the visit. Hope this helps.

hi. I just noticed this post & thought to mention that 4th of July is a big deal here in Annapolis-- downtown is one big block party, fireworks are shot from barge in the harbor, streets closed to vehicle traffic for many hours, etc. If you want to be downtown, this is what you're in for.
If you want something quieter, you might want to look for something not in the Historic District. that would mean, not the Mariott or any of the Historic Inns.
I live here, and don't stay in hotels much, but I know there are plenty of choices. What's your sister's neighborhood? Or, if you tell me the address of a B&B if you've found one, I can tell you if you're in the "line of fire."
BTW I can second Budman on the Ram's Head.

Spent many a night drinking the ale at the downstairs bar at the Ram's Head. They had one beer that was really outstanding but the name escapes me. Loew's is the best hotel in town and easy walking distance to the waterfront. Plenty of B & B's in town -do an internet search - I recall walking by one called the Flag Inn that looked very nice.
