Hotels adjacent to albuquerque airport

Can anyone give me a list of the hotels within walking distance of ABQ? I need to catch a 6 am flight and would prefer to just walk there rather than rely on a taxi. I suspect the car rental place will still be closed at 4:30 am and the shuttle not running, so I will need to drop the car off the night before, then walk to the hotel as well.

I think the shuttles from most of the near-by hotels run 24 hours.

Most airports are designed so it's hard to walk up to them, probably for security reasons.

I would like a more helpful response. Shuttles do not run 24 hours, and ABQ is right off the street so an easy walk up.

How far are you willing to walk? I suppose if you have luggage, that will make a difference.

The Albuquerque Grand is the closest.

Hilton Garden Inn is the next closest, then Best Western, Comfort Inn, Hampton and then La Quinta.

There are sidewalks along Yale Blvd, where the farthest listed above are located. But once you get closer to airport and for the ABQ Grand, I am not sure there are crosswalks or sidewalks.

I won't advise on the safety of walking in the dark, since you don't seem to want anything but hotel names....

Here's the closest one. It also provides shuttles 24 hours a day.

If you want a list -
http://www.albuquerquegrandairportho...-amenities.php
Gives you the address of the airport - 2200 Sunport Blvd

Enter that address in Google
Search for nearby hotels
You'll see a "list" of several hotels that are nearby. Click on those hotel names to see if they offer 24 hour shuttle service. The closest one does (see above).

IMO Bill_H provided you with accurate (and helpful) information.

One further thing re: returning the car and walking to hotel.

All major car rental are returned to a central rental facility [Sunport Car Rental Center, 3400 University SE.] that is some distance from the actual airport. It is not walkable to either the airport or any hotel.

What we have done in the past is to return the car, take the car rental shuttle back to the airport and then have the hotel shuttle pick us up. Again, I believe that the shuttle runs until around midnight or later, check with specific car rental agency. I would also check about how early they open, as well.

[I just checked Hertz and they are open from 5 am to 1 am. I assume others have similar hours.]

The 2 hotels that I checked (Sleep Inn, Comfort Inn) did not have shuttles 24 hrs. I have walked from the airport to mail a letter so I know that access can be done by foot.

I thought there was a Wyndham right across the street?? That must be what is now called the Grand. That or the Hilton Garden Inn will work I think. Less than a half mile walk.

I apprecite the check on the rental car times-- I think that a 5 am drop off is cutting it close, so would prefer to do it the night before. Funny that the Sunport website does not seem to give hours for the car rental shuttle service.

That hotel just adjacent to the airport hasn't been the Wyndham in a couple of years, it is indeed the Grand.

That google maps feature with the little blue man is so fantastic. I can "walk" online through pictures of the pedestrian route from the picnic tables at the west end of the terminal across 2 crosswalks to the fence around the Grand, then along a sidewalk past a little memorial with a flag to the entrance to the Grand and then north up Yale to the Hilton and beyond. It looks like a nice shady walk for part of the way (of course all November walks at 4:30 am are shady).

I booked the Hilton the night before the flight and have to say that hotels are really full middle of November. My first two nights I had to book another hotel on the north side not anywhere near Isleta but everything else around the airport/dtwn/Uptown that is not a dump is either full or too expensive.

We have always been able to get good prices using either hotwire or priceline. I can't imagine why hotels around airport [or anywhere in ABQ for that matter] are full at that time, it is one of the lowest "seasons" here. Nothing going on normally.

Priceline wouldn't work since the trip is for work and I may need to back out. I have an $80 limit and while it is easy to get a room at that price at a Hampton or Comfort Inn, it is always nice to get something better. In the past I have swung the Doubletree, the Embassy Suites, and either the Homewood Suites or Hyatt Place off Louisiana in Uptown. No such luck this trip.

I am getting more and more ticked off at Delta. Northwest (Delta bought Northwest) used to have good times on nonstops ABQ--MSP (the old AM flight was at 8:35am). Last month I connected in Salt Lake to avoid the 6 AM flight, but now even that connection is gone.

I'm hesitant to reply to Tom when he may not like the answer and may know better anyway.

The car rental shuttle from/to airport to car rental center is shared by all agencies, so you don't have to check the counter hours for each agency to determine the shuttle hours. I do not know if all the agencies have the same counter hours or if you could use before/after hours drop off for your preferred company. I know we rented with Avis and considered dropping off in a.m. for 6:30a.m. flight.

Instead we booked our last night at the Days Inn in the cluster of hotels around Yale and Gibson. It advertised shuttle starting at 5:00a.m. We dropped the car off before 8:00p.m. and the hotel shuttle picked us up at car rental place. Then at 4:45a.m. when the three folks who had signed up for the 5:00a.m. shuttle were in the lobby we took off for the 5 minute drive to the airport. There are lots of hotels in that area of Yale and some others may offer similar times/destinations for their shuttles, allowing you to drop your car the night before and ride to the airport.

Kay: That's pretty much what I intend. Walking is really just a backup for a shuttle no-show. I won't use after-hours rental car drop off because I have heard too many horror stories of damage claims raised after the fact. Besides, I need a receipt.

The reason I jumped on response #1 is because it was potentially malicious. It in no way addressed my detailed questions (wasn't even New Mexico specific) and gave the impression to a casual browser that my topic had been answered.
