Good inexpensive places to eat around Times Square area in NYC

We will be in NYC next weekend and staying near Times Square. What are some good inexpensive places to eat? We are not looking for something fancy. We will have two teenagers with us so no bars. . Also is there a good restaurant with a view in that area?

We have reservations on Sunday at 1:30 for the 9/11. We plan to attend Trinity Church and then eat before 9/11 visit. Any good places to eat in that area too?

There is a limited restaurant selection on Sundays near the Trade Center.

Les Halles is near there.

And there are number of Irish pubs that have segregated dining areas.

I would stop at Chinatown on the way from Times Square.

When we were in NYC in early May and staying at the Efison Hotel in The Times Square area to see several Broadway shows, we dined at a new place called Satya Eastern Kitchen at the corner of 8th Ave and 46th St.

it is Asian, many stir fry dishes along with sandwiches and slidera, but it is good and healthier then most places like this that use too much oil and sauce. Veggies are fresh, and portions are large and extremely reasonably priced. you order at the counter and the food is brought to you, so no tipping is required. I recommend it. the space is large, high ceilings, and comfortable. They serve reasonably priced beer, wines, and sake as well. Very friendly staff will help you order also.

Check out the space and menu/prices here. this is a good place to catch a quick, inexpensive dinner before a show.

We really like John's Pizzeria too, and Dafni has good Greek food.

John's Pizza is in an old church that has been revived into this restaurant. I like the Times Square location but love John's in the West Village. I think it's cash only in the village.

If I wanted an inexpensive (relatively) meal in that area, I would head to this pizzeria, opened by a member of the famous Starita pizza family of Naples. 50th near 8th AVenue

Strongly urge you to avoid chain or theme rests. Food is usually poor to mediocre and prices much higher than the local mall.

Definitely head to 9th ave for a host of inexpensive ethnic places - many quite good - with real, fresh food prepared daily - not micro-nuked stuff reheated from that giant single plant in the middle of Nebraska that supplies all the chains.

I was disappointed in my Greek Salad at Dafnia Taverna - the dressing was loaded with mustard ? and had no resemblance to Greek salad dressing, no oregano to be seen nor tasted;the pita was excellent.
The GTG more than madeup for it, as did our very patient and fun waiter.

Loved the gyro and the shish kabob at Dafni; my husband wasn't crazy about his lamb shank for some reason. The atmosphere is really cozy and charming.
