First nights dinner in Maui?

We are staying at the Fairmont Kea Lani for our honeymoon and arrive in Maui sometime around 4pm. Where should we plan on eating dinner at after we check in and look around the hotel? We won't want to go anywhere super fancy after our day of flying.

Thanks for suggestions!

Why not just try something in the hotel? Do try to get to Mamas Fish House at some point. Congratulations!

Thanks! I have Mamas on the itinerary. I've heard bad things about the hotel restaurants, other than Nicks.

Amelie, what bad things have you heard about the other restaurants? We're staying at the Kea Lani this summer also and, although I do know Nick's is highly rated, I thought the others were supposed to be at least okay. Please tell. Thx. -- Shar

Oh I've just heard that they are overpriced and just so-so.

I guess I'm just wondering if there are any decent places to eat in the area, besides fine/expensive restaurants.

Stop by Tommy Bahamas Restaurant at the Shops in Wailea. Lite menu, festive atmosphere, with views....

We stayed at the 4S back in October. Take a drive about a mile up to the Shops at Wailea. There were a few restaurants that may suit your needs.

My suggestion would be Joe's. It's a mile or so from your hotel...up the road from the Shops at Wailea...just make a left. Casual but very good food. Tommy Bahamas is another place I'd agree with.

I'm afraid just about everything in Wailea is very pricey and fine dining. The other restaurant at the Kea Lani is Cafe Cio and it's just OK. You might just want to get a supersized sandwich from the deli/ministore at the hotel. Those are very good and made fresh to order. We ate at Tommy Bahama's and it was good, but Cheeseburger in Paradise had better burgers IMHO and was half the price.

We stayed at the Kea Lani last September for our 10 year anniversary and loved it. We ate at Nick's and the italian restaurant (can't remember the name) and had great meals, in fact we ate at the italian restaurant twice (the first time was the first night we arrived, which was perfect because we were tired and didn't want to drive anywhere). Also, the cafe/bakery/deli is great.

You're staying at the perfect hotel in the most beautiful place on earth. Have a great time and congrats.

Oh for goodness sake! It's the first night of your honeymoon and it will be a LONG trip getting there. Don't travel any more that day! Go to Nicks. Reserve ahead and tell them your good news and you want a romantic patio table.
Then get on with the Honeymoon!!!

lol Deloris.

We are going to eat at Nicks are last night in Maui before we head over to Kauai. I think we are going to be too exhausted to want to eat there the first night.

Thanks for all the good ideas. I think I got it figured out now.

Just another suggestion--Sea Watch at the Wailea golf courses. It's pretty casual and has nice views of the course & water. The food isn't going to knock your socks off, but it's not too expensive and isn't fancy.

Also, we ate at the Italian place at the Kea Lani our first night and it was perfect for us. It's no more expensive than anything else in Maui.

Have fun!
