First nights dinner in Maui?
We are staying at the Fairmont Kea Lani for our honeymoon and arrive in Maui sometime around 4pm. Where should we plan on eating dinner at after we check in and look around the hotel? We won't want to go anywhere super fancy after our day of flying.
Thanks for suggestions!

Amelie, what bad things have you heard about the other restaurants? We're staying at the Kea Lani this summer also and, although I do know Nick's is highly rated, I thought the others were supposed to be at least okay. Please tell. Thx. -- Shar

I'm afraid just about everything in Wailea is very pricey and fine dining. The other restaurant at the Kea Lani is Cafe Cio and it's just OK. You might just want to get a supersized sandwich from the deli/ministore at the hotel. Those are very good and made fresh to order. We ate at Tommy Bahama's and it was good, but Cheeseburger in Paradise had better burgers IMHO and was half the price.

We stayed at the Kea Lani last September for our 10 year anniversary and loved it. We ate at Nick's and the italian restaurant (can't remember the name) and had great meals, in fact we ate at the italian restaurant twice (the first time was the first night we arrived, which was perfect because we were tired and didn't want to drive anywhere). Also, the cafe/bakery/deli is great.
You're staying at the perfect hotel in the most beautiful place on earth. Have a great time and congrats.

Oh for goodness sake! It's the first night of your honeymoon and it will be a LONG trip getting there. Don't travel any more that day! Go to Nicks. Reserve ahead and tell them your good news and you want a romantic patio table.
Then get on with the Honeymoon!!!

We are going to eat at Nicks are last night in Maui before we head over to Kauai. I think we are going to be too exhausted to want to eat there the first night.
Thanks for all the good ideas. I think I got it figured out now.

Just another suggestion--Sea Watch at the Wailea golf courses. It's pretty casual and has nice views of the course & water. The food isn't going to knock your socks off, but it's not too expensive and isn't fancy.
Also, we ate at the Italian place at the Kea Lani our first night and it was perfect for us. It's no more expensive than anything else in Maui.
Have fun!
