DC Restaurants

A friend is going to DC for a few nights but has not been there in many years. They are looking for a good restaurant of any cuisine for $1000 per person and other for about $50. No fish restaurants, no particular neighborhood. They are thinking of staying at the Willard.

Thank you

Anywhere? My DC favorites are (in no particular order): Ambar, Rasika, Central, Plume, and The Source. None are fish heavy, especially Ambar.

I live in DC area and don't think there is any restaurant that costs $1000 per person. In fact, it would be hard to find a restaurant for $500 a person, but there are a couple, if that would suffice. The only two that I think come close are Minibar and Pineapple and Pearls. With tax and tip and alcohol, those could come to around $500 per person (at least Minibar, P&P might be more like $300). Minibar charges around $300-325, I believe, for the tasting menu, for example, and another $100 or so for drink pairings. Both are among the sole 3 Michelin 2* restaurants in the city. Now I haven't been to either, but have eaten at Jose Andres' cheaper places and like his work. I'm sure both are good restaurants as they always get good reviews by critics, and there are the stars.

As for $50, that's pretty broad if it can be any cuisine, why not Jose Andres' cheaper Spanish restaurant, Jaleo in Penn Qtr or nearby Zaytinya (Middle Eastern). Or Rasika for Indian.

It is $100 per person, it was a typo.

And thanks for the other recommendations.

I was hoping for a thread like the one many years ago about children in cheese sauce at a restaurant in Paris. I should look for the link. The OP didn't realize he had made a typo and people had a lot of fun with it before someone pointed it out to him.

That thread was a lot funnier.

There is a definite lack of proportion. I did not want to correct it initially, because I thought the typo was obvious and did not want to insult anyone but Fodor's being Fodor's, the obvious needed to be stated.
