classic DC dining experience--suggestions please

We're two moms taking our 18-year-old sons to DC this weekend (their first time) and would love some suggestions on where to take them for a classic DC dinner (jackets, ties, we want the eye roll from them!). Would love to go somewhere "establishment" to show our little liberals how the other half does it!

I love it! Moms with irony! Can the younger generation take it?

1789 is a good choice. Citronelle could be good too. I think both require jackets.

I love it when conservatives treat liberals to a great dinner!

If you really want to show them how the other half does it, you should have THEM pay for dinner!
