Costco Hyatt Gift Certificates -- has anyone used them?

Costco sells packs of 2 $50 Hyatt Gift Certificates for $80; a 20% savings. I've called the general Hyatt number as well as the Hyatt Customer Service number. I've been told that there is no limit to using these certificates at the property we are traveling to.

We are staying two nights at this property, which totals about $950 (Grand Hyatt Kauai). These two nights are already charged to our credit card at booking. I'm told that if our room total is $950 and we present $1,000 worth of the gift certificates we will get a credit back to our credit card for the savings.

Has anyone actually done this? I don't want to throw down $1,000 at Coscto since this is the only time in this decade that we are likely to spend that much money at a Hyatt!

Thanks for any tips,
BMarieL

we just got back from the Grand Hyatt Kauai and I had the Hyatt gift certificates but not from Costco and they worked great.
The Front Desk is very helpful and will do what they can to accomadate you.
Ask for the free breakfast buffet coupons from them.
They total $56 for two and its an excellent buffet that holds you over till dinner.
Dondero's the Italian restaurant has an excellent 4 course meal for $60.
Tidepools just reopened and is getting great reviews and I miss the salt water pool so much.
Keoki's Paradise in Poipu has the best chicken stir fry evah!
Just curious as to how you are being charged $450 per night?
We were upgraded to a oceanfront suite and we had a package deal with expedia that was for a whole week $1,300 pp with air/hotel/car.
This is a wonderful managed hotel and they will bend over backwards to make your stay a good one.
Aloha

Thank you ksucat. WOW, you got a phenomenal deal. Did you go after Xmas? We've gone the past 3 years but it is always over our daughter's Spring Break in the middle of April. Maybe that pushes up the price?

Expedia is showing $518 for the same room we are getting (AAA rate with bkfst is actually $461/night, partial ocean view, 2 dbl beds with breakfast included). Yes, the buffet is phenomenal so we make sure to get that included in our room. You mentioned "free breakfast buffet coupons". Did they really give them to you for free or did you have to pay?

I have never asked for an upgrade but I think I will try it this time! We have 2 little kids though, so maybe they don't want to put us in a nice suite?

Can you tell me what you said about missing the salt water pool? I just called and they told me that the lagoon is still there and that the pools are the same. We stay there mainly for that little lagoon since our kids are small (30 pounds and 40 pounds) and we know that we can relax while they play in that shallow water without worrrying about waves washing them away!

Thank you for any information you have!

Good grief, I just realized you meant that you are home and you miss the salt water pool. I think I'll go drink some more coffee to get my brain in gear!!!

LOL..no worries.
I was there in September and air prices were high and my wife and I never wait till 2 weeks before departure but we did and that is how I got the incredible package deal through expedia.
we were getting $400-600 a night prices on expedia and on the Hyatt site and I couldn't believe it when we got the deal!
Ronald at the Front Desk is awesome and if he can swing things to upgrade your stay, he will.
The salt water lagoon is divine and it spoilt us to not want to even dip in the huge gorgeous pool with water slides and lazy river.
Wife asked when checking in and they gave us a weeks worth of coupons!
It saved us over $350 for the week though we did tip at least $15-20 per day for the wait staff.
I believe that spring break does drive the price up.
Have you been to Keoki's down the road?
It's owned by the same restaurant group as Hula grill, Kimos..very kid friendly without breaking the bank.
Have a great time!
