Need advice on cheapest way to get from cruise port to FLL

The cheapest way to get from MIA to the cruiseport in FLL is either:

1) Rent a car for the one-way drive since there is usually not a huge drop-off fee between Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
2) Take a shared van service (lots of these operating directly from MIA to the port).
3) Buy a transfer from your cruise line. All of them offer bus transfers, and I'm perplexed why more people don't take advantage.

If you are arriving the day before the cruise, then definitely choose option 1. You'll have the car for a full 24 hours and can use it to get to dinner the night before and then to the port the morning of.

Sorry ... I mis-read. You're traveling from a cruise in Miami to the Fort Lauderdale airport. Stupid of me.

All the advice still applies, but the car may be a less attractive option if you are heading straight to a flight. But I'd still price it because it could be cheaper than a shared shuttle.

$3.75 from FLL to downtown Miami. Add another $10 for taxi to the cruise port.

SAS would be more convenient...

Agree that Tri-rail would be the cheapest (I spend the Winters IN Fort Lauderdale) but the trains only run once every couple hours or so. Do yourself a favor and check out the SEVERAL limo or shared ride services that regularly run between the Port of Miami and the FLL airport. Easily found on Google.

Part of this depends on how many people you are and how much luggage you have. For more than 1 person and with a lot of luggage the car starts to become the better option.
