Cape Cod location for long weekend in July
Hello,
Myself and my adult daughter will be going to Cape Cod from NYC at the end of July. It is our first trip there. It will be a long weekend, Friday - Monday or Sat-Tuesday. We need recommendation where to look for lodging (in what town). Our budget is up to 200-250 per night. B&B is ideal but we are open to ABB, and other options. We hope to spend some time on a beach as well as do some site seeing and explore towns.
I will appreciate any advice.
Thanks in advance
Dimitry

That's a low budget for a peak weekend on the Cape. I'd recommend two options. First, there's a high-speed ferry by Seastreak that goes direct from Manhattan to Martha's Vineyard in the high summer season. You might find a hotel there for the weekend. But then you'll be on an island, not on the Cape itself. But the upside is you wouldn't have to drive all that way. However, I think the only return ferry is on Sunday.
The second option would be to find a modest chain hotel or B&B in the Barnstable/Hyannis area and just stay there, especially if you are coming with a car. There will be a quite a few options in your price range if you don't mind the lack of charm. While this isn't my favorite area on the Cape, it's got the widest range of chain hotels in your price range.
You can try AirBnB but most of those book by the week.
Either way, book immediately. That really is peak season.

If you drive, be aware of heavy traffic getting on and off the bridges to the Cape. Saturday-Tuesday would be much better in respect to that. Also look at hotels in South Yarmouth on the Sound. Also, if last weekend of July, it will be change over date for monthly rentals so more traffic.

The last weekend in July is one of the busiest changeover weekends of the summer. Most rentals are Saturday to Saturday so if you can arrange to arrive on Friday morning or early afternoon you would have less traffic. But still a lot with weekenders and second home owners coming down. Orleans would be a good place to be. It has shops, art galleries and restaurants all within walking distance. Nauset Beach is on the Atlantic and has cold water but is a gorgeous beach. This is a nice motel in Orleans. The Cove Motel - Home Some rooms are waterfront / waterview.
It is a short drive to the National Seashore beaches and Wellfleet which is a charming small town and probably what some picture when they think of Cape Cod. Provincetown would be about 45 minutes away for a whale watching trip and more galleries and shopping. It will be VERY crowded at that time.
Agree that you should book ASAP.

We stay in Dennis Port off of Long Wharf Road. I think we did VRBO for Sept but airbnb might rent for a long weekend. We are going Friday afternoon this trip but have gone for Columbus day weekend and it was a long ride off of the cape.
