Cape May for long weekend

We’re planning a short (4 days – 3 nights) getaway for the 4th of July weekend. We are in our late 30s, no kids and we’re thinking “beach”. We’re in northern NJ and would like this to be no more than 3-4 hrs drive – so please tell me if Cape May fits the bill.

We would like to stay in a hotel or B&B with a sea view, we enjoy walking on the beach (not necessarily laying in the sun), good food… I know, that weekend will be crowded, but we’re ready to cope with the crowds.

Please tell me about nice places to stay, eat, places to see and things to do if we’re not on the beach during the day. Thanks

Just visited CM last Saturday and it was literally beautiful but, as you said, you are asking about a quaint town on an outrageously busy weekend.Fodor's Destination site lists the CM Lodging & Restaurants under Atlantic City. You could ride bikes forever, drive to the AC casinos, take the Ferry to Lewes,DE, visit the low-key CM Zoo but you might want to park your car for the weekend. Restaurants range from the best B&B-style to the crowded cape May Lobster House.

My Dh and I went the summer before last, didn't stay in Cape May, but in a nearby town and wished we had stayed in CM. Do a search here as this area comes up somewhat frequently for restaurant suggestions. It's a very cute, quaint town with a nice beach. You'll enjoy it.

I would stay in cape may it fits the bill for what you are seeking. Of course it will be busy but all shore towns will be that weekend. Go to capemay.com there are lists of all the B&B's also try tripadvisor.com for references. I love Cape May and it will be a perfect weekend I am sure.

Thank you all for responses.
Yes, we know it will be busy and more expensive than usual – we’ll have to deal with this or stay home
But it seems the consensus here is that CM is a nice town, with other things to do/see besides the beach, so yes, it fits our bill. Thanks again.
