Getting to the Cape on the 4th
Any guesses on how traffic will be getting onto the Cape on July 4th.
Thinking of coming up for a few days from NYC, heading up on the 4th.
Generally takes about 5 1/2 hours.
Do you think it will take considerably longer?

Most people will have already arrived by the 4th. What you will run into, if it is a cloudy or rainy day are the many cars, up and down the highway, seeking other destinations than the beach! If it's a nice day, the only problem you might have are the crowds and closed local roads for the 4th of July parades, and at night, the fireworks. The closer to the bridge (Sagamore or Bourne) your destination is, the less time it will take you. 51/2 hours sounds like you are coming to the Outer Cape- I don't think you'll find it too bad!

Thinking of going to Chatham.
Is there a parade/fireworks in Chatham? Do you know what time?
We may not care so much about the parade, but definetly want to see fireworks. Think we are better off driving up late in the day on the 3rd?

I do not think 3rd or 4th makes any difference - doubt most people going to Cape are working on Monday 7/3.
Depending on how long you are staying, leaving the following weekend will be a challenge - probably most popular Cape week of summer.

The Wequassett Inn is lovely. Pool, casual and fine dining, boats to rent and is located between Orleans and Chatham. Kids activities (there is a charge), and three golf courses nearby.
If you check www.capecodonline.com (the Cape Cod Times website) on Sunday there will be a list of dates for the fireworks. They tend to be on different days for different towns. There are fireworks in Rock Harbor in Orleans usually on the 4th. They have a parade in the morning. Chatham doesn't have fireworks on the 4th but may have a parade.
Traffic shouldn't be bad esp. w/the 4th being on Tuesday. Saturday is changeover so there will be traffic heading off Cape. But on Sunday too for the weekenders.
