Boston - what to do/see/eat
We will be in Boston for the Head of the Charles regatta in mid October. Our 17 yr old will be rowing and will be involved in rowing activities - but we will have plenty of time to see Boston w/ our 13 yr old. We have never been to Boston - so I need advice on what to see and getting around and where to eat (nothing to fancy w/ a 13 yr old. We only have two full days - Friday and Saturday - Sunday she rows and then we leave. We are staying at the Holiday Inn in Somerville - how far is this from the Airport? and downtown? and the North End? Thanks in advance for your help.

Check out the post I just made yesterday called "I LOVE Boston"
DO eat at Chacarero!! check out www.phantomgourmet.com for some great ideas on where to eat (I can't say I had 1 bad meal in Boston! Everything was really good.)
Ok, I don't want to repeat what I already wrote on the post, so read it and then ask me questions.

Put "boston" in the search window and they'll be a ton of great info..
Also check the hotel's website, or ichotelsgroup.com & it'll tell you how far you are from the airport. Also if you go to citysearch.com for Boston they'll have "best of" links and lots of great info. Welcome to Boston and enjoy!

Here's what my teens like in Boston...walking around Harvard and eating at Mr. and Mrs. Bartley's Burger joint, Fire and Ice Restaurant, Duck Boats, Fanueil Hall, Historic Sites. I loved the Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum. It's very small. I have not taken my kids, but I know they would like it.

Your location is north of Cambridge .. you are kind of far from everything, but it is easy to hop on the T (the subway) and go wherever you like. I think you would take the red line/Sullivan Square station. You'll likely want to get a cab or shuttlebus to the airport.
Teen-friendly tourism suggestions (is it a boy or girl?):
Use the T to get around.
Shop and snack your way through Fanueil Hall.
Walk the Freedom trail (start at the National Park center) until the kid wants to quit from tired feet.
Visit the Science Museum, the Aquarium, or maybe an art Museum.
Hang around with students in Harvard Square or Cambridge Square (shops and small restuarants).
Take a harbor cruise or a whale-watching cruise.
Tour Fenway Park?
Dinner in Chinatown, or Italian in the North End.
