Blue Man Group-Las Vegas: What's The Hype About?
I've been to many types of show productions in my life, US and abroad, cheap and expensive, off Broadway and on.
Having seen most of the "major" shows in LV in recent years, I opted for BMG last month.
So what's all the hype about?
I wasn't overly impressed.
The premise is quirky, funny and engaging for about 20 minutes, but then it gets almost repetitive.
My biggest complaint is that this must be a REALLY cheap show to produce. For $83 a seat you hardly get your "money's worth".
Heck I saw Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick in The Producers for face value tix costing only $10 more. And the Cirque du Soleil shows, particularly "O", must be incredibly costly, but are priced very much the same as BMG.
If priced at $30 I'd say BMG provides a solid hour's worth of diversion.
I can't recommend it unless the tix are comped, though, based on value.

Agree completely. I saw this group in Boston and was glad the tickets were comp. It would be fine for a 20 minute opening act for something else but certainly not a full blown production as they've made it.
After a while, all you see is more of the same blue....

I disagree. I really liked the show. I thought it was creative, smart, funny and entertaining. I wouldnt compare it with a Cirque du Soleil production as they are very different. I have seen O which was amazing and Mystere which I wouldnt see a 2nd time and I have seen Blue Man Group 3 times and plan on seeing it again. It is a very loud show and I know one couple that was uncomfortable because it was so loud. It may not be for everyone but it does certainly pack them in everynight so they cant be doing too much wrong.

Why at $80 is the show entertaining for 20 min but for $30, it's entertaining for 1 hour? The length it holds your attention should not depend on the price. Now the value will depend on price. I liked the show a lot but some people just don't like it, I think it's really geared toward a younger crowd, certainly a different sort of attention span than Cirque du Soleil.
I agree that the cost to produce is low but the pricing is simply supply/demand. They charge $83 because they can and it will still sell out.

As I mentioned, I think I'd be comfortable spending $30 for an hour of BMG. The show didn't become monotonous for me until close to an hour went by, and overall, relative to the quality of entertainment, I think $30 would be a fair value.
As someone else stated, however, laws of supply and demand rule. As long as they fill seats at $83, expect the price to continue to climb.
I won't be assisting the inflation process, however, in the future.

The BMG seems to be very much a matter of personal taste.
We saw it in Chicago last month at $56/each.
We are aged 53 and 47 and have quite good attention spans!
We thought it was really good, the time went very quickly. Totally different to anything else we'd ever seen. Loud but not unbearably so. Judging by the packed audience reaction (very mixed in age) everyone seemed to be enjoying it.
Won't go again, once is enough, but it was great.

I totally agree. BMG is SO OVERATED.
It's the show for people who didn't get their act together. What I mean by that is, they didn't buy Cirque Du Soleil tickets in advance, so they're stuck with BMG.
BMG is NOT WORTH $80.
Even old Lance Burton is better. Seriously.

We very much enjoyed The Blue Man Group. We found it very smart and funny and would see it again. It is not for everyone and it is very loud. They must be doing something right as they seem to sellout just about every single night with people lining up for any last minute cancellations.

BMG is a very popular show.
But then again, people pack into Dollywood and Wisconsin Dells.
And lots of people still buy ThighMasters and ChiaPets.
And lots of people still believe that taking fad diet pills will make them thin and beautiful.
American business thanks you all.

The replies on this site should tell you that the Blue Man Group is a very unique show that some people loved, others were so-so, and others disliked ... it's really a matter of personal taste. I saw the Chicago show recently with my husband ... he loved it, and I enjoyed it although not at the same level he did. I think the show's premise is so different that it doesn't appeal to everyone ... "different strokes for different folks!"
