Can anyone give me a review of this hotel? We are staying at the Desert Pearl in Zion, and have booked Ruby's in Bryce and then staying at the North Rim in the canyon in a motel room.

Have seen lots of posts about the Pearl but nothing about Ruby's...................

Ruby's is a huge place, quite a number of buildings scattered around a huge property. Some are older, some are newer. Most rooms are pleasant enough, but basic, and fairly large. Think of it as a 1960's Holiday Inn and you'll be about right. There is a giant gas station, convenience store, grocery, and a couple of restaurants with mediocre to decent food. It's a very busy place, where people line up for dinner and gas. It doesn't begin to compare with staying in one of the cabins in the park, but when those are filled it's an OK place.

Patrick's about right. We stayed there (in Dec., a couple of years ago,) and found it quite satisfactory. We were in a wing of the main building, and the room was actually quite nice. Spacious, clean, comfortable and everything of recent vintage. Rates and location were great, too.

Ruby's is a hoot - you drive thru all this magnificent natural beauty and then you arrive at a multi-building "town" - it has a pool, convenience store/gift shop (you can buy postcards and hamburger), 1-hour photo shop, barber shop, etc. But they do it well. Rooms are in 1-3 story buildings with outside corrider motel-type entries. Ours was very large - 2 queen beds, coffee maker, very clean, everything worked, plenty of parking. Lots of families around, but did not hear any screaming rugrats thru walls.

The location is the best - a mile or so from entrance to Bryce. There is even a US Park Service office that sells National Park and/or Bryce only passes - plus the shuttle bus that makes the Park loop stops right there every hour or so. We took the bus for a full-day at Bryce but also took our car early AM and late afternoon so we could watch sunrise and sunset. If you do that, you are almost guaranteed to see big animals (elk, I think, deer)

Only major negative is their restaurant. Food is basic American of only fair quality. Restaurant seems undersized (although it is huge) for all those guests, but we never had to wait very long for a table. If you order basic salads, steaks, burgers or common breakfast foods in AM it is fine - not gourmet, but not horrible. We saw others ordering more creative type menu items and they looked unappealing.

We were there for 2 nights - ate one dinner in Tropic, UT - about 20 minutes away at Hoodoo Restaurant, which was quite good. Ate one lunch in NPS lodge restaurant - food of similar type to Ruby's but a notch up in quality - and ambiance much nicer.

Have a good trip - Byrce is our favorite National Park.

Wow! that's been there forever, apparently. I fell down a flight of cement stairs at Rubys and hit the side of my head on a car bumper when I was 10. It pushed my brand new Turquoise (yes, this was the 70's) clip-on earring straight through my earlobe.

We also stayed at the Desert Pearl while seeing Zion and then stayed one night at Ruby's when we drove up to see Bryce. Ruby's is not impressive,It is a lot of buildings on an almost deserted HWY.with LOTS of tour buses dropping off tourist.We had originally booked two nights but cancelled the second night and went back to Zion and stayed at the Spotted Dog Hotel. It is across the street from the Desert Pearl, has a GREAT restaurant and a small hiking trail and pool. Ruby's was clean but somewhat depressing as our room was located in a front 1 story building next to a separate "waffle house" type restaurant and our view was of it and the parking lot.Bryce was very beautiful but we didnt need more than a full day to see it. If you stayed in the park it would be better.

There are really good webrates for this property--about half or less the price of North Rim rooms. Of course, as others have written, much less atmosphere. Still it was a good place to sleep and get a quick meal.

Your post made me laugh. The things you remember from your family vacations1

We stayed at Ruby's this past fall on a trip with my parents. Each of our rooms had 2 KING beds, and there was still lots of extra space in the room. If you go to the hotel's own website (not the bestwestern.com website) you will find lots of specials. We took one that included breakfast each day and a discount on dinner. My husband and I could have just done with something from their handy grocery store, but Mom & Dad like a sit-down breakfast, so it worked out great for us. The staff is very friendly, and the on-site gift shop is packed with all sorts of souvenirs.
