Lodging Near Bryce
I have reservations at Ruby's Inn for September--I am having second thoughts due to some of the negative reviews--odors/dirty in the rooms on TripAdvisor and Hotels.com. We have limited time so I want to stay as close as possible to Bryce. We don't need anything fancy, but cleanliness is a must. Is it worth switching to a town just outside of Bryce? If so, which town, which hotel or B&B? Stone Canyon and Bryce Trails look nice. Comments appreciated. How long will it take to drive from Bryce to Las Vegas?

I have stayed at Ruby's several times, the last of which was 9/04. We had one of the 2K rooms not attached to the hotel, second floor. The room was very clean, extremely spacious, and comfortable beds. They even had coffee makers and replaced the coffee each day! My parents were in a room a couple doors down and they were very happy as well.
We were lucky to book a fall special, which included breakfast and a lovely book of the Bryce Canyon. You might check directly with the hotel if that interests you.
I think Ruby's is good value, very friendly service, and convenient to everything you see in the area.
Happy travels!

Tweety,
I can't give an opinion for Ruby's as we didn't stay there. We stayed at the Stone Canyon B&B in Tropic and really enjoyed it. It did take about 15 minutes to get into the park. Wherever you go, have a great trip! If you're staying around Zion (in Springdale), I cannot speak highly enough of the Desert Pearl Inn. That place is awesome.
Happy travels,
Sandy

We found Ruby's to be clean, efficient - if not filled with National Park atmosphere! It is as close to Bryce as you can get without staying at lodge within Park. They even have a shuttle that goes into park, but drive is about 5 minutes.
See current thread on posting on TripAdvisor - I agree with many who say they don't usually post unless they have something negative to say.,

I agree with those who have been pleased with Ruby's. We stayed in a ground floor room. It was spacious and very clean - a good value for the price we paid. Since it is such a short distance to Bryce I was glad I didn't spend the extra money to stay in the park. We occassionally stay in national park lodges or cabins, but overall I feel the value isn't worth the price.
We were not impressed with the restaurant at Ruby's. We found other places in the area to eat that were a better value, although I can't recall the names.
