Apartment in New York (with daily cleaning service)

Hi! my parents are thinking of spending a whole month (february or march) in Nyc. they would like to go to an apartment (2 bedrooms) but with a daily cleaning service. They would like to stay in Midtown (the area they like best is the new york palace's)or the Upper East side
any ideas??
thanks!!

You have 2 choices if you really want daily maid service. You can rent a serviced corporate apartment like those at the Marriott on 3rd Avenue and 37th Street, or you can rent a hotel suite such as those offered by the Shelburne Murray Hill or one of the other Affina Dumont properties.

These apartments might cost $10,000+ per month. Affinia offers special monthly deals, but there's a huge premium on a 2-bedroom, even if one is available, and I'm not sure they have many. Most of the corporate apartments are already booked far in advance. The limitation here is that you want a 2-bedroom apartment, and there just aren't very many of those in Manhattan. Hotels like the Carlyle and the Pierre have luxury condos, and they might rent a suite long-term, but then you are talking about something like $1000 per night.

The cheaper route might be to find a short-term sublet (those definitely exist) for about $5000 to $6000 per month and then just hire a maid to come in and clean daily at about $40 per day.

The Surrey Hotel is on the upper east side, part of the www.affinia.com group. Not sure they have 2 bedroom apts. though.
The Affinia group also has the Affinia Gardens considered UES (near Bloomingdales). Their Affinia 50 and the even nicer Benjamin are not far from the Palace Hotel.

Some other hotel options in that midtown area---the Elysee Hotel may have some suites they'd rent by the month. The Lombardy Hotel and the Helmsley Carlton are other somewhat old fashioned residential hotels that might be possibilities.

I've recently discovered the Korman Community co. has 4 buildings in Manhattan with a minimum of a 1 month rental but the prices are very high.

Oakwood.com rents by the month and has a few buildings in those areas (2 on the UES). Not sure about daily cleaning but money buys anything.

Furnishedquarters.com is another co. that rents furnished apts. by the month.

www.apartments2book.com is an English agency located in London. Most of the places they rent are suite hotels, but there are a few apt. buildings. Their #17 looks like an extended stay condo in the east 60's.

For 10k, you can rent my apartment and I'll clean up (of course I'll outsource that).

$5-6K?

If they want to stay downtown, I'll rent out mine and bid-war with nstevey! For $10K I'll cook for them.

Seriously, www.citihabitats.com has monthly rentals or there is always craigslist.org.

Craigslist isn't going to offer daily cleaning. It sounds like these people want hotel services but the size of an apartment - not an illegal sublet of a private apartment with no services and having to pretend to be relatives on a short visit.

I think the key issue is do they want other hotel services (room service, concierge, etc) that you will get in a hotel suite but rarely in any apartment - even corporate monthly rentals.

You aren't going to find what you're looking for on Craigslist or nyhabitat. Furnishedquarters.com has some very good ones, but even those usually only come with weekly, not daily housekeeping. I suppose you could arrange for daily. I'd think too that $10,000 is a real minimum for a month for a luxury two bedroom with daily service. But hey, that's only $325 a night. Try to find a luxury hotel two bedroom suite for double that and I doubt you'll have any luck.

In looking for a couple of websites just now I did pass a wonderful looking two bedroom apartment with full service. It was only $1975 a night plus tax. For 30 days, that would be a little over $67,000. How does that sound????

Try this:

I'm still thinking about that 10k mark. I could rent a *really* nice big old house in Cape Cod for a couple of weeks.

The Affinia Gardens has two bedroom/two bath suites with kitchen, and living room. It's a very nice hotel on the upper east side. We paid about $650/night, though, so I can't imagine renting it for a whole month. Is the budget unlimited?

You have to look at comparative prices. To rent a 2 bedroom apartment in the areas listed for a long (2 year rental) you would have to spend at least $5000 per month. So - $10,000 for a single month basis - with maid service - would be real bargain.

Sorry - if it's just your parents why must they have a 2 bedroom apartment? (In NYC it's unusual for a couple to have a 2 bedroom apartment unless they're quite well to do - apartments just cost too much.) If money is an issue they could take a one bedroom or a studio

I would question the daily maid service more than the two bedrooms. You can find someone to come once or twice a week for 60-80 bucks, and that would help w/ the budget.

I think there is a lot of jumping to conclusions here, and we can't really go very far without some feedback from carlota. Comments like "why do they HAVE to have" are pretty meaningless in many cases. No one says they even HAVE to go to New York, or HAVE to have an apartment. For some people travel is all about fine service and being waited on, so making your own bed and hanging up your towels is NOT part of the plan. Maybe they are fully aware that this will cost big bucks and that isn't the issue. But without some indication of that or an idea of how much they are expecting or willing to spend, I don't think any of us can go any further with this issue.

My parents rent out the two bedroom apartment at The Salisbury Hotel for extended stays. They don't stay an entire month but it does have daily maid service.

Granted this was a couple of years ago when Bill Alvarado was the GM and prices weren't as expensive as they are now.

Just went through this with friends who needed a full-service, two bedroom (they have two kids)while they were (are) renovating their apartment downtown. For what you are looking for on the UES, $10K is going to be the minimum (seriously, I hate to say that). For an apartment with daily cleaning service in a rather elite building, you're looking at $15k-$20k easily. I looked at many (many) apartments with my girlfriend so I speak from experience. If your parents want to drop that kind of change, great! If not, take a one bedroom, in a full-service building that has a concierge that can arrange weekly or bi-weekly cleaning service.

I would expect that for such an extended say, the second bedroom would be handy for guests. In any case, it was one of the OP's requirements. Those who have posted have described realistic options that match the requirements.

thank you all!! I've seen some things that might suit them..
my parents wanted a 2 bedroom apartment so that we (all their sons/daughters/grandsons) could visit them, but of course if it's way too expensive they'll probably get a one bedroom one...the daily cleaning service is because they'll be going there to rest and prefer ro do as fewer "duties" as possible...

I don;t think anyone is trying to discourage them from what they want - or say they shouldn't want it. (I won;t do housework -on vacation or at home - so I understand perfectly.)

We're just pointing out that in NYC what they want will be big $.
