Service apartments in Manhattan?

Hello,

We will be visiting our son in New York City during June 2007. We are two adults (mid 40s) and one young adult (20yr male). We will be staying for about 4-6 weeks and are looking for a service apartment in Manhattan.

We want something that has 1 or 2 bedrooms, in midtown or the upper west/east side (70s/80s).

Preferably we would like something that has maid service supplied, cable, kitchenette etc. if not, we prefer to rent through a company then sublet through Craigs List.

We want a nice, clean apartment in a safe neigborhood. Our company is paying for this, so we are a bit flexible on budget.

Please let us know if you have any suggestions.

Thanks a lot,
Jane

Jane, serviced apts. don't really exist here. The closest would be hotels with suites that are set up like an apartment where you'd have daily maid service. Otherwise, you're talking about a private apt. where you'd probably need to find your own maid. One exception that's very nice (and VERY expensive)happens to be on the upper west side (60's),the Phillips Club.

The Beacon and the Milburn are suite hotels on the UWS but they're more budget places--clean but a bit faded. On the Avenue is a newer, modern hotel that's mostly regular rooms. They do have some suites, but probably pricey.

To finish off the apt/hotel info, www.affinia.com is a very well regarded co. with 7 all suite hotels but none are on the UWS. 2 are upper east (Affinia Gardens in low 50's and the Surrey in the 70's). The rest are in midtown. They have all size suites including 2 bedrooms.

There are a number of agencies that are reliable for shorter stay apartments (1-2 wks.) for a holiday, but another poster here recently reported for a 1 month stay, they want to charge very high agency fees which make the rental exorbitant. Two of those are Nyhabitat.com, furnishedquarters.com

One of the best options for you might be the newish Trump Place on the Hudson River. Here's one co. that does shortterm rentals there

Trump Place is quite new and luxe - but is VERY far west - a perfectly safe are but not as convenient as many of the others. With the other long-term rentals do find out what type of building it is - some are walk-up brownstones - which can be tiresome for a 4th or 5th floor apartment.

Agree Trump Palace is far west but in June it will be nice weather and nice breezes over there and can be pretty glamorous.

Rereading that you are willing to stay in midtown, some other options

http://www.trpproperties.com has a building on east 52 st & the East River.

www.empirestateproperties.com has Executive Plaza in midtown west

You might want to check vrbo.com (vacation rental by owner) They often have things from agents.

There are serviced apartment in NY. Have a look at these two. I have stayed in two of the apartments used by SACO and they were quite nice.

Here's a wonderful one. Not sure of your budget. We looked at this a couple years ago, but it priced higher than we wanted. Beautiful place and wonderful facilities. It's just north of Lincoln Center -- off Broadway on 66th.

The Phillips Club.

Most of the places listed on all of those websites, apartments2book, hotel alternatives and sacoapartments are suite hotels, many the Affinia group. To my knowledge they don't do monthly prices. NeoPatrick's suggestion is the first thing I thought of too.

I can't believe I didn't think of this. In 2001 we spent the full month of May at the Allen House, 71st and 3rd. This was our alternative to the Phillips Club, and a little less expensive. It's a group of beautifully furnished extended stay apartments. We had only weekly maid service (although we had dozens of wonderful towels and a big laundry basket to use fresh ones daily) but I believe they also will offer daily service.

Call Marian, the manager at 212-794-1110. They have a website which seems impossible to find.
