Anyone have ideas of an edible gift to take to Oahu from NYC.

We have friends that moved to Oahu and believe it or not, what they wanted us to bring from the mainland was Velveeta... very expensive there and they could hardly find it. So we brought them 3 of the 3lb boxes......

I am pretty sure you don't need to refrigerate an uncut salami. Remember the sign at Katz' -- send a salami to your boy in the army? - I think Mom could just pack it up in a box & mail it.
Person who wants to know about black and white cookies -- I love them but they are not, like, "good" -- they are really like flat white cakes iced half in dark chocolate, half in vanilla icing, laid on thick and flat. It's the kind of icing that could be made from a mix, with a health-insuring amount of chemicals in it probably, and also the kind of icing that comes off in one piece should you care to try.

Elizabeth you kind of confirmed my assumption. I spoke with a friend who was born and raised in Queens. I told her this suggestion about Blk & white cookies and she said "Oh my god, there is nothing to them, just cake and sugar icing". She is Italian and Turkish married to an Arab so she is kind of surrounded by GREAT FOOD. Still does not matter now of course I have to have one since everyone raved on this thread. I told her what everyone said about Seinfeld, she cracked up as we recalled the chocolate bubka episode.

Melissa you laugh, I have a friend that is about to give birth she has Amelie on her top 5 name list. Her husband of course won't have it. I was going to come on and ask you if that Amelissa was the lengthened version of Amelie and just what does it mean?

Good night everyone thanks a lot. I take off in the morning. Still have to find that favorite bathing suit. Put back and face reality on what no longer fits from last summer. A-L-O-H-A!

Black and whites are almost like a flattened cupcake, but arent gooey or sticky...the icing is dry. I *love* the really good ones (like Junior's) but the shrink-wrapped ones they sell in the delis are positively awful. They HAVE to be fresh to taste good.
