accommodation in N.Y.
I have flown in and out of JFK a few times and have never ventured into the city. Planning on going there Mid May for 5 days.
Anyone got any ideas about good accommodation around Manhattan that will not make my credit card burn out.

Who/how many are your? What is your budget? $150? $300?
What is your preference for type of hotel (large, full service, quiet, trendy???) Do you want to be near Times Square - or are you OK with someplace quieter, less expensive and more "New York"?

Priceline is the best option (assuming you're just 2 people) for a bargain, although it seems to work better for short stays, so 5 days may not be ideal. Read up on biddingfortravel.com and/or betterbidding.com
Radio City Apts (radiocityapartments.com) is a great bargain in midtown right near Rockefeller Center. Most rooms have some kitchens. It gets booked quickly.
There's a new Holiday Inn Express on 45 st. Rooms are small but price is good and it's new and fresh with breakfast included I think.
The Salisbury (nycsalisbury.com) is another idea with large rooms near Central Park.
People have reported great things about the Red Roof Inn. I don't like the location as well as some of these others (it's near Madison Square Garden), but it's certainly a good budget option.
