Times Square Hotels

I have friends coming in from Australia, and they would like to stay in Times Square area for a few nights, and I've discovered the Marriott and Renaissance are already booked except for higher priced rooms. I'm looking for recommendations for hotels in this area that are pleasant and clean but not over the top expensive. Any help is appreciated!

Try the Doubletree. I've stayed there a few times - it's right down from the Marriott - good location, nice rooms....

This past summer my kids and I stayed at the Novotel. We were very happy with the location and the room. It's not in Times Square, but only a few steps away from it, so it's not so crazy.

If they're coming between now and the end of the year, everything may be booked or over the top expensive. Some other choices to check, Hotel 41, the Comfort Inn Midtown, the Super 8, the Broadway Inn. If there are just 2 to the room, you might want to try bidding on priceline.
