The only way to get from ST. Thomas to ST. John is by small ferry boat, so I think the answer to your question is "no".

You can rent a car ON St. Thomas & take it on the car ferry to St. John (except for one car rental company & I can't remember which one) but you can't return any rental cars from St. Thomas on St. John.

I can't imagine why you'd want to since you'd be flying in & out of St. Thomas to get to St. John from the States.

We stayed on St. John and only rented a jeep for 3 of the 7 days. You really don't need it every day.

Are you staying in St.Thomas?

The reason I wanted to return it on St. John is that I don't want the car for the whole week...and someone mentioned that food and supplies are cheaper on St. Thomas..so we are filling up a cooler when we rent a car on St. Thomas and then only want the car for a couple days and didn't want to have to ferry back to St. Thomas in the middle of our week there.

Thanks for your answers!!

Have you looked at the cost of taking a car to St. John? Looks to me like it is about $30.

I did look at that price and it is about $45...but, if I don't have to take it back to St. Thomas....I save money on groceries and I don't have to take the car back on the Ferry ???

I really doubt that your savings on groceries would be enough to justify taking a car on the ferry plus whatever the dropoff charge would be. We shopped at a big market on St. John and the prices didn't seem too high.

It's a moot point anyway since you can't pick up a car on St. Thomas & return it on St. John anyway. And I think it's Hertz that doesn't allow you to take one of their cars to St. John from St. Thomas.

I'm starting to figure that out...the money it would take to ferry othe car over would be what I would save in groceries etc... Thanks for all your offerings!!! I'll just rent on St. John for a few days and shop there! Thanks again

There's a good market right across from the Red Hook ferry to St. John called Marina Market. Not cheap but good meat counter & deli & a good selection.
