st john car ferries & car rentals
Does anyone know the updated 2011 car ferry schedule out of Red Hook?
We are arriving on a late afternoon flight in February, and will be scrambling to get to Red Hook.
Also, which St Thomas car rental companies do not allow cars to go to St John?
Thank you

You can find ferry schedules on any of these sites:
www.vinow.com/general_usvi/interisland_ferry/
www.stjohnusvi.com/ferry.
www.usvi.net/usvi/ferry.htm
Sorry, can't give you specifics on your other question other than to say some rental car companies do other don't. Best to check directly with the company before you rent.

Type in St. John car rentals in the search box above in regards to which companies allow you to take cars from St Thomas to St John. It will bring up LOTS of threads asking similar questions. Also read about advantages/disadvantages to doing so on those posts.

All you have to do is go to the websites of the car rental companies at the airport in St. Thomas, get a quote, then go to the rules associated with the rental. They will state whether you can take the car over to St. John. I think that even the ones that allow you to do it state that they don't provide road service on St. John - i.e., if you have an accident or breakdown you have to pay to have it hauled back to St. Thomas.

An issue that is often overlooked is if you have an early morning flight, a car ferry may not be available early enough to get you to airport on time. This of course can be dealt with my returning to STT a day early, returning the car, staying in a STT hotel and then taking a taxi to airport next morning.
Also, don't buy a round trip car ferry ticket; there are different ferries, run by different people and if things haven't changed, the tickets aren't reciprocal.
