Side trip from BA but where?

I'm going to go back down to Argentina this time to go to a spanish school. I always said that if I ever returned that I would see more than Argentina but with my vacation time being only so much I only have maybe 3 or 4 days tops. Where would yall suggest that I try? I like Ushuaia but that airfare $627 I don't know that's a turn off. I thought maybe Santiago for a few days with a side trip to the Andes. Maybe seeing the northwestern part of Argentina? Or Bariloche or Mendoza? Or Cordoba. Oh yeah I'm going to be going in May only time to go. And yes I know the seasons are opposite learned that when I arrived in August to 37 degrees! So May should be like November here nothing I can't handle. But thanks for anyone's reply in advance.

If you have 3 or 4 days I should choose Iguazù falls. The weather there is quasi tropical. In May the average temp. in B.Aires is 15 Cº and in Bariloche 1 Cº. If you want to go to the south you need more time. Perito Moreno Glazier: you need 3 o 4 days but the airfares are expensive so it would be better to combine Calafate and Usuhaia.
To visit other areas such as Cuyo or North (Salta and Jujuy) you need at least 5 days. Good Luck.

Hi, I agree with Haydee. Iguazu would also be my first choice under the circunstances. THere are good packages all inclusive, many adds in La Nacion, and now also Lan Argentina is flying between BUe and most Argentine cities.

Thanks yall I did look at airfare for Iguazu and they're more reasonable at $200. Ushuaia is my first choice but that price ick. I'd actually be more interested in the wildlife than just the waterfall itself though. I know there are park tours how are they? Anyone see any jaguars? I know there's a $100 visa fee to go to Brazil but what about Paraguay? I've heard nothing but bad things but surely someone has something positive to say. I don't know I like the idea of saying I went to three countries in one day just for fun. But again thanks yall. Does anyone out there like Mendoza or Bariloche?

Oh yeah I guess I should mention I'm on a limitted budget. Anybody with experience of going to Iguazu, Bariloche, Mendoza, or Santiago on a limited budget?

to Victorious:

I have the feeling you are mixing up pesos argentinos with dollars.

the rate you have for the Iguazu trip is ok. In dollars it is around 200.

the rate you have for Ushuaia is in pesos argentinos. dont miss ushuaia because of this mistake!!! if you divide it into 3 you will get the price of a bit more than u$s 200
(approx)

check the numbers again.
regardsfrom Argentina.

Hi victorious,
Hope you have a great time and get a great hold on your Spanish. We enjoyed your postings about BA a lot, and used them when we went last spring, espicially Tigre and Matadores. Thanks!
Do go to the Falls, and don't worry about missing the wildlife. As far as the falls go, there are three circuits on the Argentine side, and two are spectacular. We were hesitant, as you seem to be, but are so glad we went. And the restaurant in the park is good, with a fixed price menu and all the beef, veal, salads, etc. you can eat for about $7 US.
Mendoza is most interesting, too, as is Salta; we would like to go back

Hi yall
Thanks for yall's input. I think I'm going to be checking out Chile but I haven't decided yet. If there's one thing anyon should know about me is that I want to see everything I know I can't therefore I change my mind a lot.

Graziella, I didn't even look at lan argentina. I knew there was lan chile but I forgotten they had expanded into Argentina. Apparently taking over Southern Winds airlines according to a news article. While I still didn't see anything for ushuaia they do fly to Iguazu and Mendoza for about $200 that's more affordable. Also not to be argumentive if you're from Argentina you do pay less to fly than foreigners like me at least on aerolineas argentinas. Now I have heard of people getting the Argentina price by booking through an Argentina travel agency. But I don't know about that one.

Gandct that's so awesome that you enjoyed yourself and I'm glad I was able to help. I'll bet Matederos was a lot more fun in the spring versus when i went in August. Which was bitter cold especially coming from 90 degree heat.

It's not that I'm hesitant it's just I haven't decided what I want to do. Now if I dropped a week from BA I could do more but I really want to stay at least for two weeks to work on my spanish. Now I could look at spanish schools in other parts of Argentina. But like I said I'm going in so many directions. I'm open to all suggestions right now. I won't make a decision until December. Thanks yall.

Terrence
